The casket was covered with a pall of red roses and there were numerous other floral tributes. The pallbearers were: Archer, Lindsay, Forrest, Kenneth and Willie Cobb, all nephews, and Thomas J. Holden, Jr. and James R. Lane. Interment was in Blackstone Cemetery. Services were conducted by Reverend Thomas J. Faulkner of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, a dear friend and neighbor of many years standing. He was assisted by Rev. Mr. Holly of the Methodist Church, who read the 15th Psalm as typifying the life and character of the deceased. Mrs. Leigh is survived by one daughter, Mrs. George J. Lane of Franklin; one son, Walter Leigh of Blackstone, and a number of devoted nieces and nephews. Although she had resided in Blackstone for 40 years, Mrs. Leigh was a native of Southampton County and always said it seemed “Hallowed Ground” to her. She was a descendant of many of the old Colonial families of the county, namely, the News, Blows, Exums, Scott and Briggs. Her father was the Hon. Walter Cobb, son of Jeremiah Cobb of “Snowden” and her mother, Mary Ann Scott, daughter of Edwin Scott of “Summerfield.” She was intensely interested in and familiar with the history of Southampton and had in her possession many old documents and book pertaining to it.
