Wilson, enrolled on the 8th day of Aug.,1862 at Cardington, Morrow Co., OH in Co. C, 96th OVI, to serve 3 yrs. or during the war, mustered into service as a Private on the 19th day of Aug., 1862 at Camp Delaware, OH. On the Muster Roll of Co. C of that Regiment, for the months of March and April, 1864, he is reported Missing In Action , captured by the enemy at Sabrine Cross Roads, LA, April 8, 1864 and similarly reported until Oct. 31, 1864. On the Muster Roll of Co. B same regiment, to which transferred by reason of consolidation for the months of Nov. and Dec. 1864 he is reported Present for Duty , date of return not stated and so borne until War Roll of Co. dated Nov. 18, 1865, reports him Wounded in right shoulder at battle of Sabrine Cross Roads, LA, April 8, 1864. Signed by Assistant Adjutant General (unreadable) to Commissioner of Pensions, Sl..II, Washington D.C. Copy of Marriage Certificate in Pension Papers: Married Emma Barnard, August 21, 1859 in Bennington, OH. She was born 1844 and died June 27, 1909 in Westfield, Morrow Co., OH. Peter's birth date not given. Died September 21, 1890 in Westfield, Morrow Co., OH. They moved to Toledo, Iowa after discharge where at the age of 37 years, he filed for a pension. The petition reads: he was wounded by a gun shot in the back bone about mid way between the shoulders, the ball glancing from the backbone into the top of the right shoulder and that on account of said wound he cannot do work with out pain in said shoulder. Cannot lift anything nor use a plane nor saw nor anything in his profession or business without pain in said shoulder. Claimed he is 3/4 disabled. Affidavit: State of Iowa County of Taura(?) Stating he has not been in the military or naval service of the U.S. since his discharge on July 7, 1865 and further that he was never treated for his wound in any hospital except a Rebel Hospital while a prisoner of war and that he was captured by the Rebels at the time he was wounded. Residence: Toledo, Iowa 7th of June, 1870. At age 47 he had moved back to Westfield, Morrow Co. OH and filed for an increase in his pension on Oct. 22, 1888, as he was only receiving $4.00 a month. Filed by Jno. Conger, Attny. Mt. Gilead, Morrow Co. OH. Affidavit from Dr. Ephraim Luellen dated Sept. 22, 1888 , stating condition as critical, unable and unfit to leave his home, the greater part of his time confined to his bed. Affidavit from Dr. Shaw, M.D. stating the condition of Peter as Critical with it not going to get any better, unable to leave his home and could not do any kind of manual labor from the gun shot injury which affected his lung also. Dated 1888. Widows Declaration for Pension by Emma Barnard Wilson: Residence is Westfield, Morrow Co., OH and she is age 46. Dated September 29, 1880. Declares they were married, that she has to present date remained his widow and that one child remains at home, Viva R. Wilson, born Oct. 30, 1876. (there was a son named Barney who was older). Stated that Peter died from the effects of gun shot wound effecting the right lung, bleeding from said lung and died at or near Westfield, OH on the 21st day of September, 1890, rank Private. Emma also filed Application for Accrued Pension Oct. 9, 1890 and this was witnessed by her close neighbors, B.S. and J.B. Durkee who claimed they had known them both for 13 years. Her Widow's Application was approved and she received $12.00 per month plus an additional $2.00 for Viva R., her child. There is also an Affidavit from John & Laura N. Ruggles stating they are intimately acquainted with child Viva R. and that she is the same child and is still living. Dated Oct. 4, 1890 Another Affidavit from Levi Starr and Marion James of Bennington, Morrow Co., OH stating they were acquainted with both before they were married and when they were married and neither were ever married to any other.
