ELMORE is a son of John and Andalusia Elmore, natives of Virginia . The grandfather of our subject, James R. Elmore, was a native of Virginia and a soldier of 1812, he afterward moved to Muskiugum County, Ohio, and there finished his life, the parents of six children . John Elmore was married in Ohio, and in 1861 moved to Clarke County, Ind. where Mrs. Elmore died in 1865. Mr. Elmore is yet living, the parents of the following family; Levi R, Elizabeth J, John T, George A, Andalusia N, and James R. Our subject, James R. Elmore, married in Clark County, in 1864, Malvina C., daughter of William and Sarah Sligar, who died in 1871, leaving three children –John W, Selby S, and Mary R. In 1872, Mr. Elmore married Mrs. Sarah, widow of Levi Devore, which marriage gave issue to four children, George A., Jennie J., Levi I. (deceased) and Benjamin F.
