Muse August 19, 1851 McConnelsville, Ohio Dear Sir, Enclosed is the application of my father Capt. Lewis S. Muse for Bounty Land. You will see by the application that he resides in Georgetown, Pettis Co., Missouri but sent it here for me to attend to it for him . My father is now quite infirm and if at all consistent with your duties I would ask it as a favor that you examine his claim and make out his warrant at an early day and send it to me at this office. Considering his age and state of health I would consider it as an act of mere justice and a great personal favor. Early attention to this claim therefore will be duly appreciated. Yours truly, R.W.P. Forward to McConnelsville, Morgan County, Ohio July 29, 1851 State of Missouri, Pettis County On this 29th day of July A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty one personally appeared before me (a Justice of the Peace ) within and for the County and State aforesaid, Lewis S. Muse, aged sixty six, a resident of Pettis County in the state of Missouri, who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Lewis S. Muse who as a First Lieut. in the Company commanded by Capt. John Bell in the 1st Regiment North Carolina detached Militia organized at Gates Court House under Col. McDonough Lt. Colonel L. Joiner and Major Dickerson Green Commanding officers of said Regiment in the War with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th June 1812, that I volunteered at Raleigh, NC in the latter part of August 1814 and volunteered for six months and marched to Gates Court House where we were organized as above stated and thence to Norfolk Virginia at which place said Regiment was stationed, and that shortly after my arrival I was appointed Adjutant of said Regiment and that I remained in said adjutancy until our regiment was dischared which as some few weeks before its term of six months service expired in consequence of sickness. For further particulars I refer you to the Muster Rolls of said Regiment in and out ? of the service of the ? as I cannot recollect dates and ? incidents for forty years back. I made this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which I may be entitled under the act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the Unitd States passed 28 Sept 1850. Written in my own hand, Lewis S. Muse Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year within written and I hereby certify that I believe the said Lewis S. Muse to be the identical man who served as aforesaid and that he is of the age within stated. Vincent Johnson, J.P. State of Missouri, Pettis County I, Albion Roberson, Clerk of the County Court of the County of Pettis aforesaid do hereby certify that Vincent Johnson Esq where name appears to the foregoing certificate was at the time of signing the same an Acting Justice of the Peace and that full faith and credit are due all his official acts as such. Muse, Mcconnelsville, Ohio Bounty Land Certificate from United States of America, Department of the Interior, Office of the COmmissioner of Pensions... Lewis S. Muse, Lieutenant in Capt. Bell's Company Reg't North Carolina Militia, War 1812, is entitled to locate Eighty Acres at the United States in one body and in conformity to the legal subdivisions of the public lands upon anyo f the public lands subject to entry at private sale. Given under my hand and seal of the Department this 17th day of April Eighteen Hundred and Fifty Two. J.E. Heall?, Commissioner June 18, 1852 For value received, I, Lewis S. Muse, to whom the within warrant No. 35170 was issued, do hereby sell and assign unto Edward V. Muse, of the County of Pettis and State of Missouri and to his and assigns forever, the said Warrant and authorize him to locate the same and receive a patent therefor. Muse May 11, 1855 Zanesville, Ohio Commissioner of Pensions, Sir, Enclosed you will find an application for bounty land which may be coming to my father the applicant under the late act of Congress. He is now quite feeble and I trust that you may find it concistent and in order to examine his case and make out his warrant at an early day. When made out direct it to my address at this office. May 10, 1855 State of Ohio, County of Muskingum On this 10th day of May A.D. One thousand eight hundred and fifty five, personally appeared, Lewis S. Muse, aged seventy one years, a resident of the County of Muskingum, State of Ohio, who being duly sworn according to law that he is the identical Lewis S. Muse who was First Lieutenant in the Company commanded by Captain John Bell and acting Adjutant in the First Regiment of the Detached Militia from North Carolina commanded by Colonel McDonough and Lieutenant Colonel A. ?? Joiner in the War with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of ?? 1812 for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of more than five months. That he has heretofore whilst a resident of the State of Missouri made application for Bounty Land under the act of September 28, 1850 and received a land warrant No. 35170 for eighty acres and upon said application which he has since located upon the North half of S.W. Quarter of Section 22 in Township No. 42 Range No. 28 in the State of Missouri and cannot now return it. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional bounty land to which me may be entitled under the act approved the 3rd day of March 1855. He also declares that he never applied for nor received under this or any other act of Congress any bounty land warrant except the one above mentioned. Lewis S. Muse We, John B. Roberts and ? R. Kelly residents of the County of Muskingum in the State of Ohio upon our oaths declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by Lewis S.
