Collins was born September 4, 1843, on the farm now owned by William Collins. In 1848 he married Sarah H. McLees, a native of Muskingum County. They have had eight children. Margaret J. (McCleary), Hannah, Loudema (Trimble), Sarah E. (Miller) and Charles S. are living; Amanda A., Mary C. (Taylor) and John Franklin, dead. Mr. Collins died in 1883. He was a Universalist in religion, and was well posted on all current affairs. He was one of the early abolitionists of this region. Four of the daughters have been teachers.
