Smith Jr., 65, of Greenfield, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus. Born Feb. 23, 1933, in Fayette County, he was the son of George D. and Lucy (Hamilton) Smith. He worked as a farmer and formerly for Western Union, for the National Cash Register Co., and retired from Avoset Foods, Washington C.H. He was a member of the Greenfield Lodge 318 F. & A.M.; Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati; and attended the First United Methodist Church, Greenfield. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Ghormley, whom he married on Oct. 14, 1950; daughter, Mrs. Debbie Ellis of Greenfield; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Heather Smith of Bellefontaine; three grandchildren, Donna And Wendy Ellis and Emma Smith; two sisters, Sarah Glassner of Lockborne and Carolyn Thompson of Washington C.H.; and five brothers, Richard L. Smith of Greenfield, Dr. Darrell Dean Smith of Scottsdale, Ariz., Howard D. Smith of New Martinsburg, Joe Smith of New Holland and Gary Smith of Greenfield. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Smith and Betty Jones; and a brother, Robert J. Smith. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at Anderson- Strueve Funeral Home, Greenfield, with the Rev. John Gray officiating. At Mr. Smith's request, his body will be cremated. Calling hours will not be observed.
