Mason kkmason@shianet.org March 23, 2000 *********************************************************************** Unknown newspaper March 26, 1998 Wilfred Garen Wilfred Garen, 79, of Mount Sterling, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, in his residence. He was born July 27, 1918, in Highland County. He was the son of Clarence L. and Grace (Chrisman) Garen. He graduated from London High School in 1936 and from Ohio State University in 1940 where he was a member of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity. He has farmed Grandview Stock Farm in Pleasant Township his entire life. He has been a member of the Mount Sterling First United Methodist Church since 1955 and served in many leadership positions. He was president and active on many committees on the Ohio Farm Bureay Federation. Other activities included serving on, and as president of, the Madison County Zoning Board, London Home and Savings, and Landmark Co-Op. He also served on, and was president of, the board of directors of Case International Corporation since 1972 and president of London Truck and Tractor from 1985 until the present. He served on the Plains-Madison Plains School Board for 18 years, several of those years as president. He is survived by his wife, Arlene (Fouty) Garen, whom he married Aug. 5, 1945; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Philip Shirden of Richmond, Ind., Vickie and Lonnie Finchum and Renita and Daniel Sony, all of London, and Gail and Patrick Oravec of Mount Sterling; son and daughter-in-law, David and Carol Garen of Mount Sterling' and grandchildren, Ben Brock, Emily Shirden, Grace Finchum, Angela Finchum, Greg (Elizabeth) Finchum, Brian Garen, Rachel Garen, Katherine Garen, Matt Sony, Josh Sony, Jason Sony, Sara Oravec and Abigail Oravec. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Testerman; and son-in- law, Steve Brock. The family invites friends to call at the Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Home, London, Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Mount Sterling First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harry Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the Kirkwood Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Garen's memory to the Mount Sterling First United Methodist Church memorial fund.
