Smith Otha Homer Snyder Smith, 80, of Hillsboro, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at Highland District Hospital. He was born April 27, 1918, in Ironton, the son of George Washington and Clara Agnes (Burris) Smith. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, later serving with the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, Iris Doreen (Marshall) Smith, whom he married on Jan. 19, 1945, in Glouchester, England; six daughters, Lolie (Robert) Losey, Clara Agnes (Kevin) Arledge, Florence Pennington, Nellie Robinson, Elizabeth Huston and Christine (Anthony) Wilcox, all of Hillsboro; two sons, Otha Brian "Opie" Smith and Craig Allen Smith, both of Hillsboro; one sister, Virginia Bush of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren, Sherry Parshall, Robert Losey, Jennifer Losey, David Pennington, Melinda Maddox, Denise Ann Adams, Benjamin Wilcox and Brooke Lee Smith; three great-grandchildren, Shelby Nicole Maddox, Michael Parshall and Bethany Parshall; one sister-in-law, Gladys (Brian) Harvey, and one brother-in-law, Brian John Marshall, both of Glouchester, England. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Manford and George Brooks Smith; one sister, Emma Lang; and one grandson, James Pennington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Turner & Son Funeral Home. Rev. Wiley Perkins will officiate. Burial, with military honors rendered by the Highland County Honor Guard, will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
