Porter, 80, of Hillsboro and formerly of Athens, died early Thursday, June 4, 1998 at Heartland of Hillsboro. He was born on July 23, 1917 in Chauncey, Ohio the son of M. Paul and Madeline (Lahugh) Porter. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he had been employed for 35 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples in Athens, and was an Army veteran of World War II where he received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John P. and Cheryl Porter of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Mrs. Jeffrey (Katie) Allen of Ft. Polk, Louisiana and John D. (Joy) Porter of West Union; three great-grandsons, Alexander, Jacob and Benjamin Allen. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilynn (Davis) Porter on November 4, 1984. Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, June 8, at the West Union Street Cemetery in Athens where Russ Dunham will officiate. No visitation is planned. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. The Turner and Son Funeral Home of Hillsboro is serving the family.
