(Parsons) Counter, 79, of Newark, died March 17, 1998, at the Licking Memorial Hospital. Born May 21, 1918, in Johnston, she was the daughter of Hollis J. and Mettie (Mauger) Parsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William R. Counter; and her step-father, Herbert C. Harrison. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lynn Counter of Greenfield; daughter, Kay Jones of Bonita Springs, Fla.; special friend, Charles Tangey of Newark; grandsons, Scott Counter and Chris Carman; granddaughters, Delinda Davis, Lisa (Charles) Wagner and Angela (Wesley) Yoder; and great-granddaughter, Kelsey Yoder. She retired in 1984 as supervisor of the inspectors of the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology. She was also self-employed as a cosmetologist. She was a member of the Neal Avenue United Methodist Church, National Cosmetology Association, Licking County Chapter 23 Public Employee Retiree Association, R.T. King Chapter 340 O.E.S. in Columbus, Over 50 Club Far East Side Recreation Center in Columbus and the Newark High School graduating class of 1937. Funeral services took place at the Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home, Newark, at 10 a.m., on Saturday, March 21. The Rev. Rick Jones officiated. Burial followed in the Greenfield Cemetery where services were held at the graveside Saturday afternoon. Visitation was held Friday at the funeral home.
