Merritt, 80, of Washington C.H., died on Sunday, May 17, 1998 at 2:02 p.m. She was born in Edwards, Minnesota on April 5, 1918 to Frank and Lucy (Wagner) Shaw. She was a homemaker and a member of the House of Prayer on Washington Avenue. Mrs. Merritt was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl Merritt in January of 1982, one daughter, Ruth Ann Merritt, one brother, Percy Shaw and by one sister, Pearl Provost. She is survived by five daughters, Joyce (Richard) Powell of Washington C.H., Linda (Steve) Dungan of Springboro, Shirley Crawford and Mary Blair, both of Washington C.H., Bonnie (Tim) Fleener of Bedford, Indiana; nine sons, Donald (Mary Jane) Merritt of Greenfield, Rodger (Shirley J.) Merritt of Washington C.H., David of Kentucky, Jerry Merritt of Greenfield, Herbert Merritt of Hillsboro, Norman and Daniel R. (Dottie), both of Washington C.H., Benjamin Merritt of Greenfield, Phillip (Karen) of Washington C.H., Gene Shaw of Xenia; 45 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mrs. Merritt will be held on Wednesday, may 20, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Wellman-Kinzer Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Bray officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.
