Brown John Henry Brown, 83, of Hillsboro, Ohio, died Monday, May 18, 1998 at Heartland of Hillsboro. He was born Nov. 6, 1914 in Highland County, the son of the late Parnell and Grace (Pyle) Brown. He was a member of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church. He retired after 43 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service, having carried mail on all rural routes out of Hillsboro. He was a 60-year member and secretary of all bodies of the Masonic Lodge, Past Master in 1947 of Highland Lodge #38 F&AM, Past High Priest in 1949 of Hillsboro Council #16 Royal and Select Masters, Past Commander in 1955 of Highland Commandry #31 Knights Templar, Past Patron Hillsboro Chapter #441 Order of the Eastern Star and Knights of the York Cross of Honor. Mr. Brown was also a member of the Farm Bureau, Highland County Senior Citizens, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theater. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lena (Rhoads) Brown, on Jan. 30, 1996; step-mother, Mary L. (Morrow) Brown; a sister, Freda Barger; and two infant brothers. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, John H. and Linda Brown of Marion, Allen and Beverly Brown of Hillsboro, William Elgar and Cynthia Brown of Williamston, Mi., and Daniel and Jill Brown of Springfield; two daughters and sons-in- law, Beverly and William Summers of Washington, Ind., and Mary Alice and John Hafer of Little Rock, Ark.; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Elgar P. Brown of Worthington; a sister, Betty Hoop of Seaman; a brother-in-law, Howard Rhoads of Hillsboro; and a sister-in-law, Alice I. Rhoads of Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church with Pastor James Cattran and the Rev. Beverly Warner co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Masonic services will follow at 8:15 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, 133 E.
