HARTOON Delphos Herald Sept. 25, 1973 Funeral services for Verna G Hartoon, 53, Rt 3, Columbus Grove, will be at 2 pm Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, the Rev Robert Daer officiating. Burial will be in Hughes Cemetery near Kalida. Miss Hartoon died at 10:15 pm Sunday at her home after a long illness. She was b m March 27 1920 in Putnam County, to William W and Mary J (Young) Hartoon She never married. She is survived by a sister Mrs Berneice Pingle, Rt 3, Columbus Grove; and two brothers, Ferole and William both of Rt 3, Columbus Grove. Hartshorn, 84, of 333 West First St, the residence of Roy and the late Mary Feathers, died suddenly at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the residence. A retired school teacher, Miss Hartshorn taught 44 years in the Delphos school system. She retired in 1949. Miss Hartshorn also taught 11 years as a substitute teacher here. Miss Hartshorn was graduated in 1902 from Delphos High School. She studied further at Columbia University, New York, Yipsilanti, Mich., and Miami University at Oxford. She began her teaching career in 1905 in a one-room school in Jennings Township near Venedocia. After two years there, she began teaching in the Delphos School System where she was principal of the Old Franklin School for 25 years. Miss Hartshorn also taught in the old Garfield school for four years before her retirement. Because she wanted to teach in the present Franklin building, she substituted one day there. She was born Dec. 25, 1884 in Allen County. Survivors include three nephews and two nieces of Delphos, Columbus and Costa Mesa, Calif. She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Education Association, and the local branch of the Ohio Education Association. Funeral services will be at 10:30 Saturday morning at Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Otto Wortman officiating. The remains will be cremated, with Interment of the ashes in Walnut Grove Cemetery. S. LUCILLE HARTMAN Mrs. S. Lucille Hart- man, 71, Rt 4, Crider- sville, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at her home of an apparent heart attack. She was born Nov 6, 1905, in Union City, Ind. to George and Gertrude (Eisenbarger) Scholl. She was married Sept. 11, 1925, to Cecil F. Hartman, who survives. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Evelyn) Dillon, Rt 2, Spencerville; Mrs. Edward (Jean Maxine) Doseck Rt 4, Wapakoneta; Mrs Norman (Deloris) Cook, Rt 3, Wapakoneta; Mrs. Vernon (LaDonna) Weaver, Elida; Mrs Merlin (JoAmme) Rumbaugh, Rt. 6 Cridersville; a son, Franklin, Pontaic, Mich.; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Evert (Margaret Ellen) Prescott and Mrs Melrose Howe, both of Union City Ind.; two brothers Eli and Berdine Scholl, both of Greenville. One brother is deceased. Mrs. Hartman attended Lima Baptist Temple and was a member of its Adult Bible Class and Golden Years Club. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Thomas E. Bayliff Home, Spencerville, Pastor Ronald B. Cannon officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery east of Spencerville. The Rev William Stewart will officiate. Mrs Hartzell died at 7:05 Wednesday in Delphos Memorial Home following a long illness. Her husband, Earl E died Jan 29 1963. Surviving are a son, H Weikert Hartzell of Clark Lake, Mich, a daughter, Mrs Harold (Myrdith) Ireton of Rt 2, Van Wert, three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
