He was a native of Sharon Center and a life resident of Medina county. He built many homes in Wadsworth and did finishing work on the Trinity United Church of Christ of which he was a member. He was also a member of the Chippewa Valley Rifle club. Surviving are his daughters, Mrs. Geneva Weltzien, Mrs. Wanda M. Clark and Mrs. Marion Bell, all of Wadsworth; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Services were held Saturday at Hilliard-Cox funeral home. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery." Wadsworth News-Banner: "Something's Going On Up There" by Geneva Weltzien, March 1975: "He was a simple man, my father. He liked the simple things. He loved the outdoors and camping. He enjoyed going into backwoods with friends and relatives. He read about nature, wild animals and fish. He didn't care for fancy foods. But Snitz and Nepp (Pennsylvania Dutch dumplings with dried apple slices) baked fish and yellow tomatoes, vegetable soup and oyster stew. He liked natural grained woods (never spoil the piece with paint, he would say). He wore old shirts and they were almost always checked flannel. He loved his old beagle dog, Betsy, and his old target rifles. He grew things in his garden. He enjoyed a good joke and had compassion for the less fortunate. Family dinners and get togethers were important to him. And as we said our last goodbye to him last Saturday afternoon, it was a family get together. He would have liked that." ------------------------------ X-Message: #2 Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 14:33:06 -0500 From: espowell@juno.com (Elissa S Powell) Subject: Obit: WELTZIEN, Medina County Obituary from Wadsworth News Banner of CLYDE WELTZIEN who died December 24, 1977: "Services were held last evening in Trinity United Church of Christ for Clyde W. From the 'Lutheran Standard', 27 Oct 1847: "... But we must make room for the letter of brother Fast. Dear Brother Spielmann: - It has become our duty to announce the sad intelligence of the death of a beloved brother and fellow laborer in the ministry. The Rev. Father G.[eorge] H.[enry] Weygandt departed this life, on the 7th inst., at his residence near Doylestown, Wayne County, Ohio. He was born in Northumberland County, Penn, May the 2nd, 1779. In his infancy his pious parents brought him to the baptismal font, and by the holy sacrament of Baptism administered by the Rev. Ernst, he was received as a child of God into the family of Christians. In his more mature age he took upon himself the responsibilities of his baptismal covenant in the rite of Confirmation, administered by the Rev. J. Stauch. In the year 1812 he was joined in marriage with Maria Susanna Gu(umlaut)nther. They were blest with thirteen children, five of whom preceded their father, as we trust, to the blessedness of another world. The remainder, five sons and three daughters, are left with their bereaved mother and many other relatives and friends, to weep the loss of a kind father, an affectionate husband and a Christian friend. Seeing the great want of ministers in the Church, and being desirous to contribute what lay in his power to her prosperity, he concluded about the year 1810, to devote himself to the gospel ministry. After having officiated as a licentiate some four or five years, he was ordained in 1818. He labored as a minister of the Ev. Luth. Church, with evident success and to the general satisfaction of his charge, in the counties of Washington and Fayette, Penn., for the space of about twenty years. For nearly the same space of time he officiated in his ministerial capacity, in Wayne County, Ohio, where, as above stated, he concluded his earthly pilgrimage, with the bright prospects of a living faith in the Redeemer. The interment took place on Lord's day the 12th, in Doylestown, in the presence of a vast multitude of people, who came to participate in the solemn obsequies of their departed Pastor and friend. On this occasion the Rev. Messrs. Klein and Fast preached in the German language: the former from Rom. 8:1, and the latter from 1 Cor. 15:22. At the same time the Rev. Thomas McDermott, of the Presbyterian Church, delivered a funeral discourse in the English language, from Prov. 14:32, in the Presbyterian Church. From the diary of the deceased it appears that he was, during his ministerial life, a diligent, faithful and humble servant in his Master's cause; and we rest assured that he is gone to receive his happy reward. A friend of his has kindly offered to draw off from his diary an epitome of all his official acts, and forward it to you for publication. The Lord grant that we may also be found faithful when our end cometh. Fast." ------------------------------ X-Message: #4 Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 16:07:43 -0500 From: espowell@juno.com (Elissa S Powell) Subject: Obit: EVERHARD, Medina Co. OBITUARY from the Wadsworth, Oh "Banner Press" from 4 Jun 1914: "Daniel W. Everhard was born December 25, 1841 and departed this life May 28, 1914, aged 72 years, 5 months, 3 days. On October 22, 1868 he married Lucinda Lohr. To this union one son, which died in infancy, was born. Mr. Everhard's first wife died in March 1874. For several years he lived a widowed life. He married a second wife, Miss Sarah Weigandt, September 26, 1876. To this union were born two sons, Howard and Durbin, both of whom reside in Wadsworth. He leaves to mourn his departure, his widow, his two sons, three grand-children and two surviving sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ream, of Wadsworth and Mrs. Fritta (sic - should be Fietta) Hunt of Fulton, Michigan, besides a large number of relatives and friends. In infancy he was dedicated to the Lord in holy baptism and at the age of 16 he confirmed his baptismal covenant in Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal Oak, of which church he has ever since been a faithful member. In 1895 he was elected to the church council and has held this office ever since, for many years holding the office of Elder. His funeral was held from his late residence on High street on Sunday afternoon and the mortal remains were laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, his pastor, Rev. B. L. Westenbarger, officiating. Thus closes the life of one who was a good citizen, a faithful husband and father and a devoted brother in the church." ------------------------------ X-Message: #5 Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 16:26:24 -0500 From: espowell@juno.com (Elissa S Powell) Subject: Military records: HARNDEN, Columbiana Co.
