Ephraim: Died, July 17th, 1887, Mrs. Elizabeth Keller, aged 87 years, 4 months and 17 days. After a sickness of only nine days, the angel of death visited her in his mildest way, from the repose of sleep to the repose of death. The deceased was a daughter of Conrad Shafer; was born in London (Loudoun) County, Virginia, March 1, 1800; came to Ohio with her parents in the year 1813; was united in marriage to Levi Keller, who survived her, in the year 1820. No doubt this was the oldest couple living together in the county. But Grandma Keller's death is only another example of the uncertainty of life, and few were ever better prepared to leave the world than she---upright in her dealings, genial in her manners, and Christian in spirit, she has doubtless gone to a better sphere. Kellar Reunion Susan Kellar Ratcliffe Delaware, Ohio skrat@midohio.net NOBLE COUNTY LEADER, 11-7-1923, Caldwell, OH: KELLAR REUNION "For the fourth time the descendants of the original Kellar family, of Mt. Ephraim, (Levi and Betsy Kellar) recently gathered in a family reunion, accompanied by friends and neighbors. The place, as in the past, was the orchard of Homer Gibson, which is where Grandfather Kellar entered the land, and where his son, Dr. John Kellar, spent his entire life, living to an advanced age. He and his wife, Sarah Ann Kellar, were the father and mother of a good sized family, the most of whom with their descendants were present, viz: J.W. Kellar and family of Senecaville; Shafer family of Mt. Ephraim; the J.H. Sayre family of Caldwell, the R.S. Conner family of Cumberland, and the Homer Gibson family of the old Kellar homestead, all four ladies being daughters of Dr. Kellar and wife. Other friends present were of the Gibson family of Newark, and the Vorhies family of Ryesville. The Kellars have been long lived people which gives those now living reason to think they may have many reunions in the future. They are happy ocassions, mingled with sad memories, thinking of the days when some loved ones could be with them who for varied reasons cannot be now and never again can be with them on earth, but they have hopes of a meeting in the beautiful land beyond where parting never comes. Together with the dinner which all enjoyed to the utmost, conversations were much enjoyed as well as the informal talks which were given by a number of different persons. The number present was eighty-six." Note: This Keller family of Noble County has spelled the name with an "E" so this must be an error on the part of newspaper. ------------------------------ X-Message: #8 Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 21:05:37 -0500 From: "S. Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo township, was seriously burned Tuesday evening when her clothing became ignited from a fire on the ground near the home. Mr. Kellar had been pruning trees and shrubbery and was burning the debris when Mrs. Kellar came into the yard to assist. Her clothing was burned almost off her body and it is said that her life was probably saved because of the fact that she was wearing a wool dress. Mr. Kellar was badly burned about the hands and arms in extinguishing the flames." ------------------------------ X-Message: #9 Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 20:06:11 -0500 From: "S. K. TOMPKINS OBITUARY-CHARLES L. TOMPKINS Medina Gazette Medina Co., OHIO 14 Feb 1890 TOMPKINS, Charles L. who died on Friday, Jan. 31st, 1890, was born at Weymouth, May 30, 1824. He was the son of Marshall TOMPKINS, who came from Connecticut in 1817, and after remaining a year or two walked back, married Miss Mary ORTON and brought his young wife here to establish a home in the woods. Charles was the second son and was the true pioneer boy, participating in all the labors and hardships, as well as the pleasures of a new country. Mr. TOMPKINS worked as did his father and brothers at the cooper's trade for many years, but as that business, like so many others, drifted to the cities, he turned to farming. By his industry and economy he raised a family and secured a confortable home and farm. He was married when a young man to Miss Amelia BOSWORTH, who died leaving three children, one daughter dying in childhood, another Alice now Mrs. Brought of Granger and a son Frank now a prosperous farmer in Michigan. He subsequently married Abbey J., daughter of Rev. John L. Seymour, by whom he had four children. LaVilla, now the wife of Herbert M. Blakeslee of Brunswick, Charles E., Iron Bridge Company Foreman, and Misses Edith and Edna. Mr. TOMPKINS was all his life a resident of Medina County, and always with the exception of a few years in residence in Granger, of Medina Township. He was a Republican from the organization of the party, served in various township offices, and his death makes a vacancy in the Board of Education of Weymouth Special School District. The writer well remembers when a little fellow at school, his admiration for "Charlie," then a young man of splendid physique, who excelled in all athletic sports. How few of the "big boys" of that day now remain. Mr. TOMPKINS was energetic and forceful, an outspoken, courageous opponent, a staunch friend and an obliging neighbor. He had disease of the lung, but not enough to account for the tepidity of his decline, and after death his stomach was found to be practically destroyed by an obscure disease which had given hardly an intimation of character. Mrs. Tompkins, (the well known Mrs.Grundy of the Gazette) and family have the sympathy of the entire community. E.S.P. NOTE: This was my Great Grandfather Charles L. Tompkins.
