The following is taken from "The Bloomfield News" Friday, November 16, 1906. (Bloomfield is another small town in Greene Co., IN) DEATHS Baldridge John Alexander Baldridge, residing near Solsberry, who made an attempt three weeks ago to take his own life by stabbing himself in the throat with a butcher knife, died suddenly last Sunday morning at nine o'clock, the immediate cause of his death being a hemorrhage. He had rested unusually well the night before and friends were hopeful that he was on the way to recovery, but suddenly the blood gushed from his mouth, and in a few minutes he was dead. All the while he had seemed glommy, even despondent, and his physical powers had been so wasted by worrying and by mental distress before the deed was committed that there was not much foundation for Nature to build upon. He was one of Greene county's very best citizens and the sad affair with its fatal termination has cast a gloom over the entire community. He is survived by a wife, five sons and one daughter. To make the affair all the sadder his wife shows symptoms of being mentally unbalanced. She was taken to the home of relatives near Spencer soon after the deed was committed and it was not deemed advisable for her to come home to attend the funeral. The funeral services were held from the church at Solsberry at eleven o'clock Tuesday morning, and were conducted by Rev. J. D. Crane and Rev. W. H. Wylie, of this place, and Rev. Homer Wright, of Solsberry. In the presence of a large gathering of neighbors and friends the remains were laid to rest in the Solsberry cemetary. The deepest sympathy of every one is extended to the family in their great distress.
