EPHRAIM--- On last Thursday, June 20, 1907, about forty invited guests assembled at the home of Dr. John Keller, of Mt. Ephraim, O. to witness the marriage of his daughter, Miss Arthella Belle, to Mr. Reeland I. (Roland S.) Conner, of Cumberland, O. The day was beautiful and as we gathered together at this beautiful and hospitable home and met kind friends and the fragrance of June flowers, we all felt fortunate to be there. Promptly at high noon Mr. Conner and Miss Keller were led into the presence of the guests by the Rev. B.L. George, pastor of the M.E. church, of Cumberland, who performed the impressive and divine ceremony making the above named husband and wife and then introduced Mr. and Mrs. Conner. After congratulations came the wedding feast which the guests considered one of the finest they had ever seen. It consisted of a three-course dinner---the choicest fruits and viands, turkey, cake, ice cream, et. In all, 51 plates were set. After dinner the guests repaired to the verandah....(illegible)...spent in a delightful social manner, each one feeling at home and happiness reigned supreme. The bride received many useful and beautiful presents. In the evening the sound of music was heard in the distant part of town and a few.....(illegible)... the Mt. Ephraim cornet band came marching to the home of Dr. Keller, and appearing upon the lawn serenaded the bride and groom with several pieces of music which was much appreciated by all present, and were presented with a handsome sum of money by the groom. A few minutes later came the ladies of the town en masse to pay honors and congratulation their true and loving friend, Belle. After this the ladies were treated by the bride, and at 10 o'clock we all departed to our homes. The bride comes from an ideal American home, being one of the oldest and best of the county, Dr. Keller having resided at this place over 80 years. She is a member of the M.E. church at this place, has been leader of the choir for several years and has served as SS superintendent and teacher. She has been the efficient clerk in the store of H.C. Gibson & Son and is widely known in the community. The groom is a prominent farmer of Cumberland, owning a large farm south of town, a member of the Presbyterian church at that place and an industrious, upright and respected gentleman. Those attending the wedding from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. John W. Keller and...(illegible)...of Senacaville; Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Shafer of Zanesville; Mr. and Mrs.....(illegible)...of Summerfield, and Rev. B.L. George of Cumberland...." Arithela Belle5 Keller (John4, Levi3, George2, Martin1) was born 7-23-1860 in Mt. Ephraim, Noble Co., OH (Source: Keller, Belle & R.S. Conner; Marriage License, (Probate Court Records; Caldwell, OH).), and died 2-25-1958 in Cambridge, Guernsey Co., OH (Source: "Conner, Belle (Keller); Obituary."). She married Roland S. Conner (Source: Keller, Belle & R.S. Conner; Marriage License, (Probate Court Records; Caldwell, OH).) 6-20-1907 in Noble Co., OH (Source: Keller, Belle & R.S. Conner; Marriage License, (Probate Court Records; Caldwell, OH).), son of John Conner and Maria Lippett. More About Arithela Belle Keller: Burial: Buried in Mt. Ephraim Cemetery, Noble Co., OH. She had no children. Roland S.2 Conner (John S.1) was born 5-15-1867 in Noble Co., OH, and died 5-1939 in Cumberland, Guernsey Co., OH. He married Arithela Belle Keller 6-20-1907 in Noble Co., OH, daughter of John Keller and Sarah Miley. More About Roland S. Conner: Burial: Cumberland Cemetery, Guernsey Co., OH. Obituary---NOBLE COUNTY LEADER, February 24, 1926, Caldwell, OH: "Mrs. Herman Sayre (Mary Delilah), aged fifty-two years, one of Caldwell's most highly esteemed women and a member of the Caldwell Methodist Episcopal Church and of the Loyal Gleaners Sunday School Class and also of the Eastern Star Lodge, died at her home on West North Street, Wednesday morning of last week following a prolonged illness from complications. She is survived by her husband, two step-daughters, Mrs. L.E. Guffey, of Youngstown, Ohio, and Mrs. Mancil McFarland, of Brewster, Ohio, and the following brothers and sisters: Frank Keller, of Mt. Zion, John Keller, of Senecaville, Mrs. Hester Shafer and Mrs. Margaret Gibson, of near Mt. Ephraim, and Mrs. Belle Conner, of Cumberland. Mrs. Sayre was born and reared in the vicinity of Mt. Ephraim and was a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Keller. Short funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at four o'clock and on Friday morning the body was taken to Mt. Ephraim where further services were held in the M. E. Church, conducted by Rev. H.W. Peterson. Interment was made in the Mt. Ephraim Cemetery." The Ohio Historical Society's Death Certificate Index shows a Mary D. Sayre, died 2-17-1926 in Noble Co., OH, cert. #11,436. Mt. Ephraim Cemetery shows Delilah Sayre buried in 1926 with the Levi Keller family. The obituary for Mrs. Herman Sayer is dated 2-24-1926. Known as Delilah Keller, she was the daughter of Dr. John and Sarah Miley Keller of Mt. Ephraim, Noble Co., OH. -------------------------------- X-Message: #3 Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1998 16:05:43 -0800 From: "David Pickenpaugh" Subject: OBIT: Pickenpaugh, 1909-1998, Noble/Morgan County Cary Othel Pickenpaugh, b. 1/5/1909, Noble County, Ohio, on the hill overlooking Hoskinsville, at the home of his grandparents, John Meriman & Minerva (James) Pickinpaugh. He was the son of Audibon Orin & Blanch Josephine (Allen) Pickingpaugh. (All three spellings are as used). Cary m. 3/29/1930, Helen Miller Dallas, b. 2/25/1914, Carlisle, KY, d. 10/31/1975, McConnelsville, Morgan County, Ohio, Daughter of Earl & Emma (King) Dallas Cary passed away October 1, 1998 at the ICU at Good. Sam. Hospital., Zanesville, Ohio, he was at the Marks Rest Center from March, 1998, until his death. Cary was best known as the MORGAN COUNTY MAYTAG MAN for almost 50 years. He grew up in Duncan Falls, Muskingum County, Ohio, where he attended the Elliot school, near the McDonald's store, both are now gone. As a youth he attended the Sugar Grove Methodest church, was a life-time member of the Eagles club of McConnelsville and attended the Grace Methodest Church. He was 89 years old. The body may be viewed at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville, Morgan Co., OH on Saturday, 10/3/1998 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM, Eagle services will be held at 8:00PM. Services conducted by Rev. William Bill Pickenpaugh of Quaker City. The funeral service will be Sunday at 2:00PM at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home and a grave side service will be held afterwards at the cemetery at Hoskinsville, Noble County, Ohio Cary is at rest beside his wife Helen at Reagan Chapel Cemetery, Hoskinsville, Noble County, Ohio This cemetery also is the resting place for Cary's Grandparents, John Merriman Pickinpaugh and His wife Minerva (James) and his G-Grandparents, George Washington Pickinpaugh and his wife Mary (Pidcock).
