ADAMS William B. Adams, one among the best known citizens of Cadiz, died on Sunday morning, September 25th, 1898, after an illness of several weeks, of Brights' disease. He was born on a farm in the western part of Cadiz township, but he had been a citizen of the town of Cadiz since the years of his early manhood. For many years he followed the business of black smithing, but in latter years was engaged in the business of hardware merchant and dealer in farm machinery, his business bringing him into the acquaintance and friendship of a large part of the business people of the county, among whom he was universally respected and esteemed. His wife survives him, also all of his children, six daughters and three sons, excepting one daughter, Mrs. Havnar. Mr. Adams was a member of the M.E. Church; he also belonged to the Odd Fellows and to the J.S. McCready Post, G.A.R. and the funeral, which was held on Tuesday morning this week, was conducted by his pastor, Dr Webb, assisted by each of the fraternal orders above mentioned, who attended the funeral in a body. He was laid to rest in the Cadiz cemetery. ------------------ CARD OF THANKS. The family of the late William B. Adams of Cadiz desire to express their heartfelt thanks for the many kindnesses and assistance rendered by neighbors and friends during the late illness of their husband and father and for their presence and sympathy after his death. Words can not express the full meaning of all that they would desire to say. MRS. ADAMS and Children ------------------- -W.H. Havnar, who enlisted from Uhrichsville as a member of the 7th Ohio volunteer infantry, now at Camp Bushnell, was in Cadiz on Tuesday this week in attendance of the funeral of his father-in-law, W.B. Jamison has been appointed Township Trustee for Cadiz township to fill the vacancy caused by the death of W.B. Adams, and William Henderson has been appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of N.B. Haverfield. These appointments last only until next April election. They are both good appointments. ------------------------------ X-Message: #4 Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 13:04:48 -0800 From: Chris Havnar Subject: OBIT: ADAMS, Harrison County OBIT - Adams, Franklin J., Harrison County, Died 4-11-1903 Born: March 1876 Cadiz, Harrison Co., Ohio Died: April 11, 1903, Cadiz, Harrison Co., Ohio -------- DEATH OF FRANK ADAMS Policeman Frank Adams died at his home in Cadiz on Saturday morning, April 11th, 1903, after a brief illness of malignant typhoid fever. His age was 28 years. He was married two years ago to Miss Catherine Wier, who survives him. His funeral was held from the M.E. Church Monday afternoon, this week in charge of the Odd Fellows organization, of which he had been a member, and with church services conducted by Dr. Armstrong, the church being crowded with those in attendance. The Odd Fellows to the number of about fifty attended in a body, six of their number serving as pall-bearers, and all marching as a guard of honor with the hearse to the cemetery. The village officers also attended in a body, and the Fire Company, of which the deceased had been a member. Among the beautiful floral offerings were a piece representing the Broken Links, by the Odd Fellows, a wheel with a missing spoke, by the fire company, and a broken column by citizens of Cadiz. Frank Adams was born in Cadiz in March 1876, and had always lived here. For the past four years he had served as policeman, most of his time on the night force, and was a most faithful and efficient officer. As an officer he was kind and courteous to every one, but stern and unflinching in the line of duty. Evil doers both feared and respected him, and he never attempted to make an arrest without succeeding. Usually offenders went with him at a modest request, knowing that resistance would be disastrous. He was genial and friendly, and everybody liked him. He was a model officer, and there is sincere regret at his death by all of our citizens. Frank Adams was usually the picture of perfect health and physical vigor. He was strong, muscular, robust, and active, a perfect terror in foot-ball games, and a giant in strength and endurance when at work with his company in fighting fire. His illness and death could not be other than a great surprise to every one who knew him. He had really been ill for two weeks before he consented to leave his post of duty, but lived less than two weeks after calling a physician. Drs. McGavran and Campbell did all for him that physicians could do, and he had the tenderest care of loving friends, but his work was done and he had to obey the call that comes to all sooner or later. He will always be remembered here as a brave and faithful officer, and a noble hearted citizen and friend. ----------- DEATH OF FRANK ADAMS James Franklin Adams, son of the late W.B. Adams, who was a resident of Cadiz during his entire life, and who has been a police officer in this city for the past three years, died at his home on Muskingum street on last Saturday morning at about eight o'clock. He was ill but a short time, having been confined to the house and bed about two weeks with typhoid fever. He complained to friends of feeling badly for several days before he had to give up. From the start the terrible disease seemed to take a strong hold upon its unfortunate victim, and as he had been a very hearty, robust fellow the fever had that much more to work upon, he gradually grew worse until it became evident that he must die. His illness and death was universally regretted. He was a general favorite with all who knew him, from boyhood up till his death. He was full of life, fond of sport, and always ready to lend a willing hand in a case of need. As a member of the Cadiz fire department, he proved himself to be a brave and judicious fighter of the destructive element. In more than one instance his quickness and strength and undaunted courage saved many hundreds of dollars worth of property. While he served as policeman in Cadiz, he filled the office as well as any person who had ever held that position. He was always courteous and never shunned his official duty, which at times was an unpleasant one for any one to fulfill. Mr. Adams was married to Miss Kate Wier, about three years ago, and the couple seemed to have bright prospects but his death has cast a gloom over the heart of his young wife, the widowed mother and his brothers and sisters. The community extends its sympathy to the bereaved relatives. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at one o'clock. Short services were held at the house, and the remains were then taken to the Methodist church by the fire company and Odd Fellow lodge, where beautiful and touching services were held conduct - ..... (Incomplete - Cut-Off ) --------------- CARD OF THANKS I desire to express my sincere thanks to my many dear friends who were so kind to us through the weary days and nights of the illness of my dear husband, Frank Adams, and in the sorrow of his death and funeral. CATHARINE ADAMS We wish to thank the good people of Cadiz for their kindness to us during the sickness and death of our son and brother, Frank J. Adams. MRS. M.W. ADAMS AND FAMILY --------------- The leading topic of conversation during the past week was the sudden illness and much lamented death of Frank J. Adams, who was widely known as Pinkey. Everyone seemed to greatly regret that such a hearty, robust young man with apparently great promise of long life and good health should be taken away. Words of deep sympathy and regret came from the lips of everyone, when it became known Saturday morning that death had claimed him. Life is as uncertain as the weather. We know not what day or hour we may be called to answer the last roll call. Many persons never know what life is until they experience sickness and what it is to have death enter their home until one in apparent prime of life is taken away from them. The death of Mr. Adams has doubtless cause more sober thought among all classes of people in this community than anything has for many years. ---------- Mayor McNamee was splendidly sustained in his official duties by the members of the village council, and he had a most efficient helper in policeman Frank Adams. He has given us one clean and strenuous administration, without fear or favor, and one that is certain to be remembered to his credit in the future years by all classes of our citizens, and even by those who opposed his re-election. Let us hope that Mayor Scott may see his way clear to be just as efficient, and just as vigilant. ------- OUR NEW MAYOR Mayor L.H. Scott of Cadiz took the oath of office and entered upon his official duties on Monday, this week. At the first meeting of the council under the new administration held on Monday evening, the question of the appointment of a new policemen, to take the place made vacant by the death of Frank Adams, came up. There were some eight or ten applicants for the position, good, bad and indifferent. -------- DISTRESSING ACCIDENT Last Saturday, Frank Adams, son of Williams Adams, the hardware merchant, a young man of about 15 or 16, was at Pierce Adams' in Stock township and in the afternoon went hunting. In the evening, on his return to the house he went to put the gun away, by pushing it in on a porch, having hold of the muzzle with his right hand. In some way the gun was discharged, badly lacerating his right hand. His condition was considered serious Sunday, but Tuesday we learn that he is doing well, and that it is probable that his hand can be saved. ------------------------------ X-Message: #5 Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 13:05:57 -0800 From: Chris Havnar Subject: OBIT: ADAMS, Harrison County OBIT - Adams, Martha J., Harrison County, Died 10-26-1982 Born: December 23, 1905, Cadiz, Harrison Co., Ohio Died: October 26, 1982, Harrison Co., Ohio -------- Miss Martha J. Music was furnished by the choir members who had so often sung with Tempe at the funerals of others. The handsome casket was decked with beautiful flowers, the gifts of many loving friends. Among the very large company of people who had come together to take the last look at the pale yet beautiful face, were the teachers who had been so intimately associated with Tempe, and after all others had gone the young ladies of the Monday Night Club assembled together around the silently sleeping form, beautiful in death, but whose lips could give no answer back to the sighs and tears of those who had loved her so intimately and so well. All of Tempe's nearest relatives were present at the funeral excepting her two brothers, Mr. Chas. T. Carnahan of Denver, Colorado, and Mr. John S. Carnahan of Monterey, Mexico.
