Bolard- Ashtabula Obituary William H. Bolard Ashtabula Star-Beacon Oct. 25, 1940 W. H. Bolard succumbs at age of 80 (pic) Death claimed a prominent Ashtabula resident Thursday night when William H. Bolard, 80, succumed at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. A. Williams, South Ridge East, following a heart attack. Death occurred at 8 o'clock. Despite his advanced age, Mr. Bolard's death came unexpectedly. He drove his car downtown on Wednesday and was in his usual good health until Thursday. A resident of the city for more than 50 years, Mr. Bolard was widely known, having spent the majority of his life in business. In his early years he was associated for 20 years with the Ashtabula Fork & Hoe Co., now the American Fork & Hoe Co. Leaving the Fork & Hoe Co. he became associated with Fred Seymour in the grocery business and later purchased a store of his own, which he operated on W. Prospect Rd. For 14 years he was superintendent of the Ashtabula Bow & Socket., but due to a nervous breakdown, he was forced to resign and seek activity that would keep him in the open. He turned to real estate and insurance, a business which he operated successfully for many years with offices on Main av. He was still engaged in business at the time of his death, maintaining a desk at the Charles A. Herzog Agency and acting as a soliciter for that company and taking care of his real estate business. A number of years ago he sold his insurance business to the Hulbert Agency. Later the Hulbert Agency was taken over by Mr. Herzog. ------------------------------ X-Message: #10 Date: Tue, 23 Feb 1999 13:21:56 -0600 From: "bettie noel" Subject: New Clipping Ashtabula Star-Beacon FROM ASHTABULA STAR-BEACON SEPTEMBER 4, 1920 SEVERAL INJURED IN AUTO MISHAP WEST PROSPECT ST Several people were injured, none of them seriously, when two automobiles came together on West Prospect street, not far from Sage's garage, about 5 pm yesterday. Mrs. Emma Merritt and Mrs. Jane Bolard of Waterford, PA were badly bruised and shaken up and were taken to the General Hospital. Later in the evening they were able to leave the hospital and return to Waterford. Mrs. R. Nelson, 8 Summer St., her daughter Mildred, aged 11, and her son, Arthur Nelson, were slightly hurt, but they were able to get to their home. The accident occurred when Nelson's automobile, which was standing on the north side of the street, and partially off the main highway, was struck head on by a car driven by Wm. Bolard of Waterford. Mr. Bolard had turned out, it is said, to pass a car ahead of him, and in so doing crashed into the Nelson machine. Traffic at that point was very heavy at the time of the mishap, owing to the fact that the N. Y. C. car shop near-by had just dismissed for the day.Bettie in TN BOLARD, GORDON, HARRIS, HOGLE, HOLCOMB, HOLT, HUNT, LANDON, PARKER, PHILLIPS, RUSSELL, SHEPHERD/ SHEPPARD, SMITH, THOMPSON, WILLIAMS, YOUNG PRUDENCE - PATIENCE-,PERSISTENCE -------------------------------- End of OH-FOOTSTEPS-D Digest V99 Issue #122 *******************************************
