Taylor was born in a log hut on his father's farm, near New Albany, Plain Township, Franklin County, Ohio, November 5th, 1849. He is the second son of Elder J.P. and Rebecca (Perfect) Taylor. The ancestry on the paternal side came from Virginia about 1821. His maternal ancestors were from Kentucky and came here in 1814. He received his early education in the country district school, and at the age of fourteen years entered and attended two terms at Central College, Ohio, under Rev. Henry Bushnell, and one term in the Normal School at Johnstown, Ohio, under Professor Vaughn. When sixteen years of age, he made application to the Franklin County Board of School Examiners for a teacher's certificate, and was refused on account of his age. He insisted on being examined to know if he was qualified and was permitted to join the class, and did receive a certificate for six months, and was very soon called to fill a vacancy of a teacher. After teaching for three successive winters and working on the farm and saw mill during the summer months, reading medicine when not otherwise employed, under the direction of Dr. George W. Holmes, of New Albany, Ohio, entering the Eclectic Medical Institute of Cincinnati, Ohio, in February 1869, attending three sessions of sixteen weeks, boarding himself and rooming in the fifth story of the College Building at an average cost of ninety-two cents per week for the forty-eight weeks, he graduated February 7th, 1871, and located in Sunbury, Ohio, February 14th, 1871, remaining in that village until October 1892, when on account of his health failing, he decided to change his location and moved to Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Taylor was married October 2nd, 1870 to Miss Mary E. Miller, who died May 29th, 1919, and to this union were born two children, known to all of their acquaintances as Howe and Essie. The daughter, Essie Taylor Creighton, died June 22nd, 1912. Dr. Taylor was a member of the National Eclectic Medical Association and of the Ohio State Eclectic Medical Association of which he has been Secretary, Vice-President, and in 1897, President; also Secretary, Vice-President and President of the Central Ohio Eclectic Medical Association, a member of the staff of physicians of the Mercy Hospital, of columbus Ohio; and a life member of the Eclectic Medical College Alumial Association. Dr. Anthony P. Taylor entered into rest at his home, 68 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, June the 9th, 1923. Aged 73 years, 7 months and 4 days. He was a member of Champion Lodge, Knights of Pythias, and Galena Lodge of Odd-Fellows. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maude M. Taylor, (nee Recob), whom he married October 27, 1921. A son, Howe Taylor, of Lake View, Michigan; a sister, Mrs. E.C. Babbitt of New Albany, Ohio; three brothers: Truman Taylor of Michigan, Robert Taylor of Reynoldsburg , and Harry B. Taylor of New Albany, Ohio. three grand-children and one great grandchild. One Brother, Dr. F.G. Taylor, having passed on before. -------------------------------- End of OH-FOOTSTEPS-D Digest V99 Issue #94 ******************************************
