He married March 14, 1848, Susan Waugh, born here November 14, 1830, daughter of John T. and Anna (Sloan) Waugh, who settled here in this county 1800. Mathew and Susan had: Elizabeth, Missouri, Mary, John, Lora, Thomas, Emily, James, Charles, Walter, Etta and Clarence. Mathew had brother J.W. in Mexican War. John T., the son of Mathew and Susan married Mary R.Wetherholt born June 4, 1856, daughter of Jacob and Sarah (McKean) Wetherholt, who came to this county 1845. MITCHELL, George F. - Born July 19, 1819, Washington Co., Ohio, son of John and Anna (Plumer) Mitchell who came to this county in 1836. George married in Gallipolis July 12, 1846 to Mary Lasley born here June 4, 1824, daughter of Abraham and Nancy (Reynolds) Lasley who came here 1797. George and Mary had: Mary, Charles, Viola, George, Edward and Milo. Anna Plumber Mitchell was sister of Rev. W.S. Plumer of N.C. McCARTY, Jonas Sr. - Born October 7, 1791, early from Shenandoah, Va. to this county; married Esther S. Rife born March 3, 1791, Greenbrier Co., Va. Their son Jonas Jr. was born here February 19, 1827 and married October 1, 1846 Sophfrona Jones born August 29, 1825 in Athens Co., Ohio, daughter of Elias and Charlotte (Smith) Jones. Elias born Essex Co., N.Y., died 1838. Charlotte born in Vt. died May 4, 1838 age 44. Jonas Sr. died 1851 and his wife died past 92 years of age. Jonas Jr. and wife had: Charlotte, Alonzo, Charles, Missouri, Cecelia and Serena. MONTGOMERY, Thomas J. L. - Born here October 28, 1835, son of Thomas and Tracey (Swindler) Montgomery, early settlers here. Thomas Jr. married Lucretia Haskins born here May 23, 1834, daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth (Garlick) Haskins who settled here in 1814. Thomas Jr. and wife had: Deniza, James, John, Charles, Tacy, Clara, Eliza and Wm. (twins), Eugene, Lauria and Decatur. The wife Lucretia died March 14, 1875. MAUPIN, Daniel G. - Born June 7, 1822 Albemarle Co., Va., son of Ambrose and Lucy (Telman) Maupin who died in Albermarle Co., Va., Ambrose died 1850 and Lucy died 1853. Ambrose was son of Zachrin and Elizabeth (Gorman) Maupin of French descent. Daniel married 1st Margaret C. Johnson born Trumbull Co., Ohio August 11, 1825, died September 21, 1863 and had: Sarah, Henry, Ambrose, Wesley, Josephine, Addie and Minnie. Daniel married 2nd February 7, 1865 Sarah D. Bickel born here September 24, 1841, daughter of Rev. Aaron and Savannah C. (Porter) Bickel and had: Artie, Wm., Carrie, Clinton, Lucy and Lucilla. Daniel was in legislature in Calaway Co., Mo. and Lincoln Co., W.Va., postmaster in Lawrence Co., Ohio. To this county 1869 and was druggist and physician. McDANIEL, Sylvester - Born here March 7, 1818, son of Jehu and Elizabeth (Boggs) McDaniel who settled here in 1807. Jehu in War of 1812 and his father in Rev. War. Sylvester married here March 8, 1838 Mahala Louks born in W. Va., April 2, 1821, daughter of Joshua and Mary (Row) Louks who settled here in 1822. Sylvester and wife had: William, Mary, Jehu and Melissa. Son William born March 4, 1840 married April 27, 1869 Araminta Copeland born August 12, 1841, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Keller) Copland, and had Fred, Lucy, Gertrude and Clarence. McDANIEL, Ephriam and wife Elizabeth (Shumate) McDaniel settled in this county in 1811. They had a son Marion born September 18, 1834 who married Phebe Bird born here June 15, 1843, daughter of George and Mary B. (Briggs) Bird. Marion and Phebe had: John, George, Mary, Anna, Albert, Marion, Joseph and Minnie. McDANIEL, Friend settled in this county in 1816 married Margaret Wiseman who was here in 1830. They had a son Frank who married Euphemia Stewart born here November 28, 1851, daughter of John and Sally C. (Neal) Stewart who settled here in 1839. Frank and wife had 4 children. MARTT, Joseph H. and wife Lydia (Thornton) Martt settled in this county in 1854. They had a son James L. Martt born April 8, 1849 in Lawrence Co., Ohio who married Florence Colwell, here in 1873. She was born here November 28, 1851. James and wife had 3 children. MUELLER, Rev. John P. - Born July 26, 1838 in Metternich, Germany, son of Christian and Gertrude (Hamacher) Mueller of Germany. He married November 20, 1877 Elizabeth C. Lauer in Parkersburg, W.Va. She was born in Washington Co., Ohio September 10, 1846, daughter of John and Margaret (Berg) Lauer. MYERS, John and wife Mary (Fralix) Myers settled here early. John in 1828 and Mary in 1833. They had a son John William Myers born here May 25, 1839 who married Mary Handlin, born Alleghany Co., Pa., who came here in 1849. John and wife had 11 children. Son Enoch B. born here September 3, 1851 married Maggie Stewart born August 13, 1851 in Muskingum Co., Ohio, daughter of George S. and Catherine (Wear) Stewart who settled her in 1853. John Myers was born Giles Co., Va., February 7, 1810 and his wife Mary was born Pittsylvania Co., Va., June 12, 1810, married here in Gallipolis June 24, 1833. McDANIEL, Jehu L. - Son of Sylvester and Mahala born January 18, 1844, married Martha Guthrie born here January 26, 1844, daughter of Truman and Hannah (Knowles) Guthrie and had May and Ethel. Jehu in Civil war. MILLER, James - Born March 29, 1836 in Beaver Co., Pa., son of John and Sarah (Haines) Miller. He married 1st June 14, 1840 in Meigs Co., Harriet Grapes born June 2, 1842, daughter of David and Elizabeth (Cummings) Grapes. She died November 17, 1866 leaving 3 children: Arnetta, John, David. He married 2nd Julia A. Barton born December 26, 1835, Columbiana Co., Ohio. Julia had married 1st Dennis G. Armstrong, in this county April 2, 1857. Dennis born July 5, 1832 in Washington Co., Ohio, son of Theodosia and Mary (Sprague) Armstrong. Dennis died June 21, 1864 and left children: Winafred (Coulter), Austin and Dennis. Julia's grandfather, Thomas Barton died here 1860 age 84 and grandmother age 86. James and Lydia had: James, Isaac and Cora. McLEOD, Norman - Born March 28, 1799 and his wife Irena (Gates) McLeod born March 26, 1806, settled here in 1810. They had a son Robert B. born here April 8, 1839, married December 25, 1861 Lucinda Waddell born here January 29, 1844, daughter of John and Lucinda (Armstrong) Waddell, who settled in this county in 1810. John Waddell was born October 13, 1799 and his wife born March 31, 1802. John died January 18, 1875. Robert and Lucinda had Thomas and Irena. Norman also had a son Thomas. MORGAN, David J. - Born Cardiganshire, Wales September 8, 1821, son of John and Catherine (Jones) Morgan. John born 1785 died 1858 and Catherine born 1787 and died 1871. They came to this county 1842. David J. married in this county January 9, 1853, to Mary Davis born January 29, 1834 in Cardiganshire, Wales, daughter of John K. and Mary (Frances) Davis who settled here in 1842. John K. was born February 1, 1802 and died May 1, 1879 and his wife born February 1, 1802. David and Mary had 15 children. MOSSBARGER, Jacob - Born this county July 4, 1822, son of John and Mary (Whellbarger) Mossbarger. Jacob married 1st Nancy Cherrington March 23, 1845 and she died November 14, 1849 and left 2 children: Mary and Wm. who later went to Antelope Co., Neb. Jacob married 2nd Martha McCarley born in this county December 21, 1824, daughter of Moses and Sarah (Hartsock) McCarley who settled here in 1812. Moses died 1851 and wife Sarah born 1791 and died 1880. Martha had married 1st Thomas Warner born Marietta, Ohio December 21, 1819 and died December 5, 1849 leaving 2 children: Anaximander born 1846 and Moses born January 17, 1849 who both later moved to Nebraska. Jacob and Martha had Sarah, Samuel, John and Effie. MADDY, James W. - Born here March 25, 1817, son of James and Elizabeth (Lowry) Maddy, who came with one child to this county in 1814. James Sr. was born Monroe Co., Va., September 2, 1791 and his wife Elizabeth born Stafford Co., Va. 1796, died 1875. James W. married Mary Hardy April 16, 1846, born June 8, 1823 in Ohio Co., W.Va., daughter of William and Clarissa (Cole) Hardy who settled here in 1840. Wm Hardy was born in N.J. in 1799 and died here 1880. His wife Clarissa born N.Y. State in 1799 and died here 1879. James W. and Mary had: Wm., Lewis, Sarah, James, Edwin and John. MINK, Jacob - Born January 26, 1812 in this county, son of Abraham and Barbara (Lawrence) Mink, who settled here in 1811. Abraham born 1790 in Pa and Barbara born 1792 in Pa. Jacob married here Mahalea Jonson March 15, 1840, who was born in Mason Co., W.Va. February 14, 1818. Jacob and Mahalea had: Annias, Enas, Margaret (Mackall), Barbara (Kinkaid), Rachel, Jacob, Amos, John, Thomas, August and Edmond. MARTIN, James - Born in this county July 13, 1827, son of George and Helen (Johnston) Martin, both natives of Scotland. John born 1799, died 1880; Helen born 1798, died 1828. James married Isabella Askin February 20, 1854 in Meigs Co., Ohio in 1835. Richard born in Ireland in 1780, died 1850 and Agnes born May 16, 1805 in Belfast, Ireland.
