Some of the early settlers were: The four REAM brothers, Henry HANSEL, James HARROD, Wm. BRANDON, George BEERY, David CARPENTER and others. George Ream built the first grist mill and Daniel Ream the first saw-mill. Judge Joseph STUKEY built an early grist mill. An early Justice of the Peace was Squire John A. COLLINS. The first marriage was in 1802, and was that of Joseph Loveland and Miss Shellenbarger. THE BEERY FAMILY - Nicholas Beery had family of 8 sons and 7 daughters and most of them settled in this section. Son George was born 1783 in Rockingham Co., Va. and here in 1800. Two of his brothers were half-brothers. His mother was a CRADLEBAUGH. In War of 1812. His mother a daughter of Rev. War soldier of Penna. THE REAM FAMILY - Abraham Ream born Reamstown, Lancaster Co., Pa. in 1746, here in 1798; had 5 sons and 7 daughters. Half-brother Jacob here. EPHRIAM CROOK FAMILY- Ephraim and 7 sons here early. Son William came in 1805 from Henry Co., Va. William a War of 1812 soldier.
