Mary died April 29, 1876. They had 4 sons in the Civil war, John, Charles W., Joseph and James. James Harrison, the father of Mary was in the War of 1812 and was 1st cousin of Gen. Wm. H. Harrison. John Hicks, the father of Jeremiah was also in the War of 1812. James W. married January 30, 1866 Angeline Parker, born here March 28, 1843, daughter of Adonijah and Catherine (Springer) Parker, who came here in 1832. Adonijah died May 18, 1880 and Catherine died October 1, 1847. James and Catherine have 3 children. HOBACK, James N. - Born Floyd Co., Va. January 6, 1835, son of Joseph and Mary (Gray) Hoback. Joseph born in Va., January 5, 1815, died in Ross Co., Ohio September 5, 1878. Mary born in Va. may 23, 1804, died here November 7, 1877. James N. married February 17, 1859, in Raleigh Co., W.Va., Sarah Furrow, by Rev. Vandervert. Sarah born Montgomery Co., Va., May 23, 1836, daughter of Charles and Nancy (HOward) Furrow. Charles born in Montgomery Co., Va., in 1803, died in 1881. Nancy born in same county in 1808, died 1873 in Raleigh Co., Va. James N. and Sarah had 9 children. They lived in Portland, Ohio. HOVER, John S. - Born Crawford Co., Pa., April 30, 1831, son of David H. and Elizabeth (Frame) Hover who came here in 1843. They had 4 sons in the Civil war; James V., Henry S., David F. and John S. John S. married January 1, 1859 in Jackson Co., W.Va., Margaret A. Ankrum, born Jackson Co., W.Va., August 18, 1841, daughter of of William C. and Ruth (Guinn) Ankrum. William C. Ankrum died January 8, 1871 and David H. Hover died June 25, 1871. John S. and Margaret had 9 children. They lived Long Bottom, Ohio HAWLEY, James R. - Born here May 5, 1844, son of William and Rebecca (Adams) Hawley, who came here in 1832. James married here May 25, 1868, Ocella Reed born here April 5, 1847, daughter of Sylvester S. and Emily (McIntire) Reed. Sylvester came here in 1816, where 5 generations now reside. Rebecca was born in this county. James and Ocella have 5 children. HARKINS, David T. - Born Chester Co., Pa., June 26, 1819, son of Thomas S. and Rachel (Terry) Harkins. Thomas born Bucks Co., Pa., December 23, 1794, came here in 1867 and here died May 15, 1876. Rachel born Chester Co., Pa., March 15, 1798, died March 1827. David T. married in Chester Co., Pa., April 14, 1842, Sidney Sprouls, born Chester Co., Pa., August 25, 1820, daughter of Robert and Mary (Scott) Sprouls. David and Sidney had 6 children. They came here in 1854. David and 2 eldest sons in Civil war. HALLIDAY, William L. - Born here January 13, 1837. His father born Kirkmayhoe, Scotland April 28, 1804 and died March 17, 1855. His mother born Dumfrieshire County, Scotland April 22, 1818. They came here in 1834. William L. married in Mason Co., W.Va., May 17, 1866, Janet B. Sanders born New Brunswick province, February 3, 1840, daughter of James and Janet (McKnight) Sanders, who came here in 1840. James born in Kirkmichael, Scotland, November 4, 1817 and died Mason Co., W.Va., in 1857. Janet was born in same place in 1816 and died 1868. William and Jane had 5 children. Wm. in Civil war. HOLLIDAY, Daniel B. Jr. - Born Nicholas Co., W.Va. February 3, 1816, son of Daniel Sr. and Jane (Bail) Holliday. Daniel Sr. born July 10, 1774 and wife Jane born April 2, 1786, came her with their son in 1832. Daniel Jr. married here December 15, 1838, Rachel Ogden born December 8, 1818, daughter of Alvin and Hannah (Keller) Ogden. Alvin born April 13, 1775 and Hannah born May 15, 1777. Daniel and Hannah had 7 children: John, Hannah, Mary, Emeline (Strong), her twin Caroline (Bothes), Noah and Lovina (Morton). Rachel died August 6, 1874. Daniel Jr. married 2nd Julia A. Jackson born here December 1830, daughter of Peter and Thurzy (Glassburn) Jackson. John, the eldest child of Daniel B. born September 8, 1839, married Caroline S. Nelson born here April 26, 1845, daughter of Benjamin and Clarissa (Shaw) Nelson and had 7 children. HOLCOMB, Ebenezer L. - Born Gallia Co., Ohio August 15, 1834, son of Abner J. and Ann S. (Holcomb) Holcomb. Ebenezer married 1st, June 1860, Agnes Askins, born February 4, 1828, daughter of Richard and Nancy A. (Stewart) Askins. They had 5 children. Agnes died January 28, 1879. Ebenezer married 2nd in Vinton Co., Ohio Annie E. Calvin born Beaver Co., Pa., January 30, 1846, daughter of John and Abigail (Aken) Calvin. They had 1 child. Lived Wilkesville, Ohio. JEROLEMAN, Peter Harroway - Born New York City September 15, 1817, son of Alexander and Frances (Harroway) Jeroleman. Alexander was the 3rd son of Jacob Jeroleman born N.Y. City January 17, 1782 and died there August 12, 1869. Peter came here in 1836, and married in Pomeroy, Ohio November 2, 1847, Sarah Van Meter, who was born Mason Co., W.Va., July 31, 1833, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Peck) Van Meter. Henry born Blue Ridge County, Pa., and Elizabeth born Shenandoah Valley, Va. Peter and Sarah had: Elizabeth, Alex. (lived Kansas), Henry W., Mary F., Charles H., Margaret J., Sarah, Thomas and Joseph. Peter in Civil war. Lived Chester, Ohio. JOHNSON, Alexander R. - Born Washington Co., Pa. March 2, 1839 son of James and Rachel (Heaton) Johnson. James born Sussex Co., N.J. June 24, 1806, came here in 1839. Rachel born Washington Co., Pa, September 30, 1806. They had son W.L. Johnson in Civil war. Alexander married here April 28, 1860 Zidana Robinson born here August 9, 1842, daughter of Eli and Cynthia (Curtis) Robinson. Eli and Cynthia were born in N.Y. Eli died here August 18, 1881 age 75. Their son Lewis Robinson, among the missing in Civil war. Alexander and Zidana had 8 children. Lived Chester, Ohio. JACKSON, George W. - Born Pocahontas Co., Va. September 17, 1846, son of Blackwell and Ruth E. Jackson. George married here September 15, 1867, Luana M. Holt, born here June 30, 1842, daughter of Charles M. and Maria E. (Thompson) Holt. Charles died here October 1, 1866. Maria came here in 1836. George and Luana had 1 daughter, Mabel E. They lived Rutland, Ohio. JENNINGS, Henry - Born here April 24, 1838, son of Jonathan and Nancy (Gettys) Jennings who came here in 1837. Nancy died September 22, 1852 and Jonathan alter removed to Waverly, Pike Co., Ohio. Jonathan and Nancy had: Rhoda (Watson), Samuel (killed in Civil war), John, Sylvester (lived Kansas), Eliza, Mary (Martin, lived Venango Co., Pa.), and Henry. Henry married Emily Ann Kincade born Guysville, Athens Co., Ohio September 1, 1845, daughter of Allen Morrison and Harriet (Patton) Kincade of Athens Co., Morrison born December 7, 1821 and Harriet born January 22, 1825 (who had 6 children). Henry in Civil war. JONES, Rev. William - Born Monroe Co., Ohio February 26, 1832, son of George and Hester (Hat) Jobes who had 6 sons in the Civil war: Carby, Peter, John, Bishop, George and William. William married in Washington Co., Ohio July 31, 1853, Melissa Hicks born Monroe Co., Ohio November 14, 1834, daughter of Jeremiah and Mary A. (Harrison) Hicks who came here in 1853, where Mary died April 29, 1876. Jeremiah and Mary had 4 sons in the Civil war: John, James W., Charles, W. and Joseph Hicks. William and Melissa had William born July 14, 1854 and Sarah born July 11, 1856 (married Mr. Bracy). JONES, Thaddeus - Born here September 22, 1839, son of Leroy and Roxelana (Ryther) Jones. Leroy here in 1814. Thaddeus married here May 26, 1861 Mary A. Radford born here October 22, 1839, daughter of Frederick and Ann (Carlton) Radford who came here in 1830. Thaddeus and Mary had Ella (who married Mr. Sapp), Wilbur, Amanda and Fred. Lived Burlingham, Ohio. JOHNSTON, James - Born Twiddle County, Scotland, September 11, 1810, son of James and Anna (Grey) Johnston who came here in 1839. James born Ayrshire, Scotland March 25, 1777 and died here April 5, 1852. Anna born in East Scotland in Stitchhill February 5, 1777 and died here October 1840. James married here June 28, 1849, Electa Russell born here May 18, 1831, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Hoppes) Russell. John born here in 1808, died September 1880 and Elizabeth born here in 1809, died January 1, 1850. James and Electa had: John (live Mo.), Thomas and Elizabeth (twins), Amanda E., George, Louisa, Alex. (lived Mo.), Louis G. (married L. Knapp), Andrew and C. Merrilla. JOHNSTON, Joseph - Born Frederick Co., Md.? August 24, 1837, son of John and Catherine (Cline) Johnston who came here when Joseph was a child. Joseph married here September 5, 1857 Charlotte Andrews, born here May 26, 1840, daughter of Robert and Susan (Piper) Andrews. Joseph and Charlotte had: John E., Ida M., and Joseph E. Lived Alberta, Ohio. Joseph in Civil war. JACKSON, Thomas D. - Born Pickaway Co., Ohio November 18, 1848, son of William and Elizabeth (Kent) Jackson. Thomas married here January 31, 1870, Tabitha Wood born here March 25, 1849, daughter of Joshua and Mary (Luckey) Wood. 3 children. KAUTZ, John Wendal - Born Germany, in Bavaria province December 16, 1806, son of Wendal and Catherine (Pfarr) Kautz. Wendal died in Germany in 1843 and Catherine died 1848. John came to America in 1833 and here in 1835. He married in Md. June 3, 1834 Magadalena Roll, born Alsace France September 25, 1813, daughter of Ignatius and Elizabeth (Hanns) Roll. Elizabeth died in Germany and Ignatius died January 12, 1864 in Muskingum Co., Ohio. John and Magdalena had: Elizabeth, Maria, Henry, Joseph (lived Kansas), John, George (lived Kansas), Wendal, Abraham, Elizabeth (Dorst), Magdalena (Mast), Sophia, Amma E. (Schlagel, lived Mo.). Lived Chester. KNIGHT, Benjamin F. - Born here August 31, 1840, son of Benjamin and Dolly A (Newell) Knight. Benjamin Sr. here in 1817. Benjamin born March 3, 1806, Garland, Maine and Dolly born February 23, 1807, Hinsdale, Mass, came here age 12. Benjamin Jr. married here May 6, 1869 Mary C. Copen, born Hockingport, Athens Co., Ohio January 3, 1845, daughter of Luther C. and Margaret (Spencer) Copen. Luther born Parkersburg, W.Va. November 3, 1817 and Margaret born W.Va.
