Do not know name of paper as of this date-7/12/99. pmrhg@aol.com SCUDDER- "Mary Scudder, wife of W. H. Scudder, was born Feb. 7, 1821, in Hamilton Co., OH, near Cincinnati. She died June 19, 1896, at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. John Patton, in Greensburg, IND., aged seventy-five years. She was married to her now bereaved husband, W. H. Scudder, Feb. 28, 1839, and in the same year, with her husband, joined the Church. In Nov. 1852, she, in company with her husband and other friends, moved to California. After a short time spent in San Francisco, they moved to Ione Valley, Amador Co., where they lived for about eighteen years. She was an efficient worker in the Church. Her love and loyalty for the Church were evident, and unquestionable by all who knew her. She lived to do what good she could for humanity, and to honor the Church of her choice. Her home was always open to the itinerants, as well as to all workers in the Master's vineyard. She possessed a kind and benevolent spirit. When able, she was ever present at the various Church services. Upon leaving Ione, they moved to Santa Barbara; but as the climate there did not agree with Sister Scudder's health, they resided there but eighteen months, and then went to Sacramento, where they lived so long as they remained in California. Desiring to spend their last days among their relatives, they came to Greensburg, Ind., June 21, 1878. Soon after their arrival in Greensburg, she and her loving companion united with the Frist Church, at which place she continued a faithful and consistent member until called to her heavenly home. We can only offer to her afflicted husband the sympathy of hearts keenly alive to his loss; but we feel confident that his loss is her eternal gain. After an appropriate service, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J.W. Duncan, assisted by Brother Lathrop, her remains were laid to rest in South Park Cemetery, Greensburg. - J. W. Duncan."
