Imhof, Pittsburg, PA and John F. Fisher, Danville, IL MICHAEL WEAVER was born near Hagerstown,Maryland, August 18th, 1778, of Scotch parents. He was the youngest child. His mother remarried after his father's death and moved to North Carolina. In 1789 when eleven years old Michael left home and returned to Hagerstown. An older sister married and lived in Kentucky. Michael married Maria Spessert (Spessard), daughter of Michael Spessard and his wife Christiann Spessard (maiden name unknown), of Chewsville, Maryland, where they are buried in the old cemetery across the road from the homestead. The house beside the cemetery occupied by Kieffer Speasard at the time of my visit, a descendant of Maria's brother John Spessard, was once of United Brethren Church. (Scharff's History of Western Maryland has a record of their graves.) The family formerly lived in Keedysville, formerly called Centerville, on the old road leading to Boonesboro. The new road cuts through the center of Michael Spessard's lane which divided his property from that of David Hess. From old family letters I know that the Michael Weavers lived in what is now Lawrence County, Pennsylvania a short time, near his sister Elizabeth Spessard Reynolds. Then they went to Kentucky and from there to Clermont County, Ohio. Their last Ohio residence was in Brown County, Ohio where they lived for ten years, moving from there in 1828 to Vermilion County, Illinois. The old farm back in Brown County was sold for a County home and was little changed seventy-five years later when a descendant visited it. Maria (Mary) Weaver and Michael Weaver are buried in Weaver Cemetery near Indianola, Illinois, which ground Michael Weaver donated in 1836. All information on the Weaver Family after leaving Pennsylvania was furnished by John F. Fisher, Danville, IL. For anyone desiring information on the Spessard line, there is a Spessard Genealogy compiled by Howard Lehman Spessard, Hagerstwon, MD. The Spessard Genealogy states that the old family Bible was taken west by one of the married daughters. Mr. Fisher (contributor) wrote that the page of vital statistics in their family Bible was carried away by a pet crow which destroyed it. It is not in the possession of the Reynolds Family nor of the third sister Christianna Jane Sterrett of Erie, PA. It is likely that Catherine Weaver, 1st wife of Peter Spessard, brother of Maria, was a sister of Michael Weaver which accounts for his return there after his mother remarried and moved to North Carolina. Spessard are in the D.A.R. Library, Washington D.C. and Maryland Historical Society Library in Baltimore, MD. The name of Michael Weaver's father is unknown. There is no indication in this genealogy that Michael Weaver's father was named Henry but it is possible that Henry S. Weaver born ca 1780 was a brother of Michael and that the initial could have stood for Spessard, as there is a definite connection between the Weavers an Spessards in Washington Co., MD. A John Weaver built the old Spessard home at Keedysville which is of stone, said to have been the same John Weaver who built stone bridges over the Antietam. A Catherine Weaver, in all probability a sister of Michael Weaver, married Peter Spessard, eldest son of Michael and Christiann Spessard, parents of Maria Spessard who married Michael Weaver. Gideon Baum lived to be over 97 years old and his mind was always clear as a bell. He informed his son Dr. Earl L. Baum that none other of the Weaver family were buried around Indianola except Michael Weaver and his heirs. ______________________________ ------------------------------ X-Message: #2 Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 13:02:19, -0500 From: AUPQ38A@prodigy.com (MRS GINA M REASONER) To: OH-FOOTSTEPS-L@rootsweb.com Message-Id: <199907251702.NAA13354@mime3.prodigy.com> Subject: FRIENDSHIP QUILT Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset=US-ASCII Ohio The cross road of our nation Records & Pioneer Families October-December 1962 Vol. III No. IV Published by Esther Weygandt Powell - NO COPYRIGHT FRIENDSHIP QUILT The approximate date of the quilt is given as 1848-1850.
