Davis, Wichita, KS The Bible, bound in rawhide and now in poor shape, was published in 1828 by H. & E. Phinney, Cooperstown, N.Y., and apparently obtained by John McBride about 1830 for all entries of earlier date appear to have been entered at the same time. Later entries are in different ink. The Bible passed to John's daughter, Maria, who married Lewis Cary Quaintance. The Bible was that of John McBride who was born 6 September 1782 in Frederick Co., VA, the son of Stephen and Hannah Smith McBride, Quakers. He married 11 August 1803 in Frederick Co., VA, not by Quaker ceremony, Ann Maloy, daughter of James and Rachel Carter Maloy. Between 1806 and 1808 John and Ann McBride, along with John's parents, moved to Columbiana County, Ohio. At first they lived in Holmes Township but later they apparently moved to near Mt. Gilead. Ann was buried at Gilead. He may have lived with his daughter Maria Quaintance. She lived at Mt. Gilead. By Elizabeth Wiseman, a native of Cumberland Co., Pa., he had one son Mahlon, b. 18 April 1832, married 1855 Sarah Jane Hemminger. By Hannah Boyle he had two daughters, Eliza Jane, b. 19 June 1834, and Sarah Ann b. 22 June 1837. The twenty second: The marriage of the betrothed pair took place inSharon. November 1818 The twelfth: In Gnadenhutteen there occurred the burial of George Werner, married. He departed on the tenth after a lingering and painful illness. March 1819 The 30th: The marriage of the widower, Amaza Warner, to the unmarried Cynthia Warner took place in Beeersheba. April 1819 The eighth: The single brother, Martin Tschudy, was present as a condidate for confirmation: and as candidates, the single brother John Guenther, the married sister, Rebecca Everett, the single sister Abigail Demuth and the older girl, Dorcas E. Peter. May 1819 The twenty seventh: The mariage of the single Isaac Simmers to the single Ruth Davis took place in Beersheba. A family arrived today from Pennsylvania who are looking for a permanent place of settlement, namely, John Andres, wife and 4 children. They were permitted to move into the former house of mother Ginther. He expects to follow the trade of shoemaker. The unmarried brethren, William Blickensderfer and Wiliam Schmick of Lititz also came to this vicinity on a visit. Sunday, the thirteenth: In the afternoon the communicants of Gnaddenhutten and Beersheba had a blessed participation in the body and blood of Jesus in Holy Communion, at which the single brother Martin Tschudy was a first time participant. Those who witnessed as condidates were: the married Bro. John Everett, the single brethren, John Niegermann, and Gabriel Romig and the youth, Abraham Guenther, as well as the married sister, Catherine Walton. The thirty first: In Holy Communion were first timse participaants: the married Bro. and Sr. Herbach; the single sister, Anna M. Keller witnessed as a condidate. The married E. Demuth and the older girl, Lydia Romig were added to our association. June 1819 The third: The marriage of the single William Simmers to the single Mary Walton (Asa) occurred in Beersheba. Sunday, the sixth: Little Mary Anne Taylor was baptised. Sunday, the twentieth: All the children in Gnadenhutten celebrated their festival together; more than seventy children were present. October 1819 Sunday the twenty fourth: In a separate meeting which was conducted in the English language, there occurred the solemn confirmaation of the married Bro. and Sr. John and Rebecca Everett and of the married sister, Catherine Walton. The twenty fifth: John Andres with his family moved into his newly erected house in this place. The twenty nineth: Two sons of our brother Jos. Rhoads of Pennsylvania came on a visit to this vicinity, namely, Joseph, a farmer and John, a Methodist minister. Sunday, the thirty first: Recieived into the choir: Adam Dell, Jac. Uhrich, Jac.
