ACKLEY, George Knight, M.D. -Born here September 8, 1831, son of Jeremiah Burris and Charlotte (Wright) Ackley. George married Minerva Crowser born here October 10, 1831, daughter of John and Nancy (Smith) Crowser. George and Minerva had 4 children. He was Surgeon in 4th W.Va. Infantry in Civil War. ADAMS, John Q. - Born Feb. 21, 1833 in Jefferson County, Ohio, son of John and Elizabeth (Johnson) Adams. To this country 1836. Elizabeth died 1869. John Q. Adams m. 1st October 21, 1855 Emeline Peoples, born Jefferson County, Ohio April 26, 1836, daughter of Robert and Anna E. (Palmer) Peoples, she died July 22, 1867. They had Marcus, Ida, Joseph, Addison and William P. He married 2nd September 11, 1869 Rebecca Sibert born February 14, 1850, daughter of N.D. & Louisa (Johnson) Sibert - here 1836 - sons Abraham and Peter in Civil war. Had 2 children. ALLEN, Augustus J. - Born here July 24, 1847, son of James and Mary (Harkins) Allen, here in 1840. He married November 10, 1875 Marietta Taggart, daughter of Samuel and Chloe (Browning) Taggart - here in 1835 - who had sons Joseph and Roseberry Taggart in Civil war. Augustus and 3 brothers, Harkins, James and Thomas in Civil war. Augusta and Marietta had 4 children. AMOS, George - Born Northamptonshire, England December 17, 1819, son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Cread) Amos. George to America 1836 -here 1843; married 1st December 31, 1842 Priscilla Dole born Trumbull County, Ohio March 29, 1823, died 1865, daughter of Richard (born N.J.) and Rhoda (Stratton) Dole (born Columbiana County, Ohio). They had 13 children. He married 2nd Frances Folden November 28, 1866. She was born in Bedford Co., Va., February 19, 1824, daughter of George and Nancy (Taylor) Folden, and had m 1st. Lueus Wilson of Columbiana County, Ohio and by him had 3 children. BETZ, Henry Jr. - Born September 11, 1824, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, son of Henry and Mary Betz who died in Germany. Henry Jr. married October 15, 1850 in Berks co., Pa., Mary Glitsh, born July 25, 1828 in Germany, daughter of John and Julia (Betz) Glitsh who died in Germany. Henry Jr. and Mary had 10 children. BROWN, Presley S. - Born September 17, 1838 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, son of John R. and Mary (Beck) Brown, married here December 30, 1868 to Margaret Moore born here December 31, 1868, daughter of James C. and Hannah (Toland) Moore, here 1838. Presley and Mary had 5 children. Presley in Civil war. (dates for Margaret's birth are obviously wrong, but as printed). BUCK, George - Born October 2, 1830, in Steuben Co., N.Y., son of William and Jerusha (Rose) Buck. Jerusha died 1857 and Wm. went to Wisconsin. George married May 27, 1852 in Athens County, Ohio to Ara A. Becker born May 3, 1833, daughter of James and Louisa (Worthen) Becker of Athens County - here 1876 where James died 1879 - has sons James, William, Selden, Rufus, E. Wesley, Wallace and Jehiel all in Civil war. George and Ara had 7 children. BYRNE, Andrew Jr - Born 1818 in Wicklow, Ireland, son of Andrew Sr. and Rosanna (Ringwood) Byrne (both died in Cincinnati, Ohio, he in 1822 and she in 1832 of cholera). Andrew Jr. here age 9 and lived with uncle, Wm. Carleton. He married here December 15, 1855 to Lucinda Laubner, born Bavaria, Germany December 3, 1832, daughter of John Laubner Sr. and Margaret (Bitterman) Laubner - here 1839 - he died October, 1867 age 76 and she died June 23, 1857 age 67 - had son Andrew Jr. in Civil war. BARRETT, Rev. Selah Hibbard - Born February 24, 1822 here, son of Selah born 1796 and Sylvia Beeman, here 1817. Rev. Barret was 7th in descent from James Barrett who came from England in 1635 and settled in Mass. The father died July 12, 1860, the mother April 20, 1858. Rev. Barret married September 2, 1860 to Rebecca Simms, born March 12, 1827 in Ohio Co., W.Va. daughter of Hezekiah and Caroline Simms. Rev. Barret and Rebecca had 2 children. BEAN, George M.D. - Born here June 25, 1841, son of Archibald and Adaline H. Bean. He married in Athens Co., Ohio March 15, 1866 to Celinda J. Crouch born here May 6, 1843, daughter of Lewis and Lucinda (McKinstry) Crouch. Dr. Bean and Celinda had 4 children. He was wounded in Civil war. BECKLEY, H. Nelson - Born September 22, 1812 in Canaan Twp., Hartford Co., Conn., son of Jonathan and Sally (Collins) Beckley who came to Ohio 1814, to Athens County. H. Nelson married July 4, 1834 in Athens Co., Ohio, Pera Clutter born October 29, 1813 in Washington Co., Pa., daughter of Wm. and Sally Clutter. H. Nelson and Pera here 1849 - had 6 children. H. Nelson and son William in Civil war. BENEDICT, Jabez - Born October 13, 1802 in Otsego Co., N.Y., son of Felix and Clarissa (Hubbel) Benedict - here 1803 where Felix died October 29, 1828 and Clarissa died July 9, 1849. Felix at age 13 taken prisoner for 3 years by British and Indians. Jabez married April 4, 1833 in Athens Co. to Miriam Chase, born March 1, 1812 in Kennebeck Co., Maine, daughter of John Merrill and Miriam (Murray) Chase who came to Athens Co., Ohio November, 1815 where he died October 27, 1853 and she died October 25, 1851. Jabez and Miriam had 11 children. Two sons, John and George in Civil war. BRALEY, Cyrus born October 16, 1811 in Kennebeck Co., Maine, son of Ebenezer and Dorcas (Savage) Braley here early. Cyrus married July 3, 1838, Mary Stansbury, born July 21, 1818 in (now) Jefferson Co., W.Va. and had 10 children. He married 2nd September 22, 1867 Laura A. Smith born July 1, 1831 and had 2 children. BARRETT, John Power - Born here September 5, 1834, son of Thomas (born 1788) and Anna (Dukenmaneer) Barrett. Anna Born 1788 and died February, 1847. Thomas died 1864 - here in 1817. John P. Barrett married September 10, 1862 at Tuppers Plains to Sybil Campbell born here June 30, 1842, daughter of Robert and Ann (Packard) Campbell. John P. and Sybil had 8 children. John P. in Civil war. BARRETT, Oliver - Born August 3, 1845 in Yellville, Arkansas, son of Wm. and Lucinda (Freeze) Barrett. The father born in Vermont and the mother in Mass. Oliver and brother, George and William in Civil war. Oliver married at Tuppers Plains. Effie A. Green, March 13, 1866, who was born at Tuppers Plains December 17, 1845, daughter of William and Susan (Parsons) Green. Her father born Yates Co., N.Y. in 1805 died 1882. Her mother born Athens County, Ohio 1810. Oliver and Effie had 3 children. BARRINGER, W. Asa - Born March 2, 1822, son of William and Elizabeth (Buffington) Barringer. Elizabeth still living about 1883, age 87 and her name now Rardon. W. Asa married 1st. Margaret Cunningham and had daughter Mary born July, 1849. He married 2nd Anna E. Teeter born 1836 in Ebensburgh, Cambria Co., Pa., daughter of Isaac Teeter. No children. BARTLETT, John W. - Born April 8, 1838 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of James and Jane (Hughes) Bartlett. John W. married in Pomeroy, Ohio May 21, 1872 to Clara B. Williamson born in Pomeroy, daughter of Edmond and Jane (Cannon) Williamson. John and Clara had 3 children. John W. in Civil war. BOGGESS, James Samuel - Born February 4, 1845, son of Benjamin and Mary (Brown) Boggess. He was born in what is now Mason Co., W.Va. His mother a native of this county. Her father John Brown settled near Buffington Island about 1820, thence here. John W. married here January 5, 1870 to Julia Pratt Grant born here December 1, 1846, daughter of William Hull and Esther (Hobart) Grant. Her grandfather, Samuel Grant came from the State of Maine to this county from N.Y. State about 1818. James S. and Julia Boggess had 3 children. BRADBURY, Joseph Perry - Born Kyger, Gallia Co., Ohio February 21, 1838, son of Asa who came with his father from Maine in 1817 (much here about Joseph P.) Joseph P. married Dot E. Woods, born March 17, 1849 in Pittsburg, Pa., daughter of John and Nancy Wood. Married October 7, 1882. BRADFIELD, Isaac - Born here January 8, 1838, son of Jesse and Rachel (Brooks) Bradfield. He married here September 29, 1861 to Tabitha B. Gregg, born April 24, 1836 in Belmont co., Ohio, daughter of William and Nancy (Clark) Gregg. 4 children. BRADFORD, John B. - Born here August 20, 1837, son of Robert and Mary L. (Arnold) Bradford. Robert Bradford born March 38?, 1796 in stockade near Belpre, Washington Co., Ohio (1st white child born in stockade). He is a lineal descendant of Gov. William Bradford, Pilgrim father who came to America 1620 in the Mayflower. Robert married in Belpre in 1822 Mary L. Arnold, born July 26, 1798 in Rensselear Co., N.Y. and came here in 1828. Robert died December 3, 1875 and widow still living (ca 1883) age 86. Robert and Mary had 5 sons and 2 daughters. Three still living are: Sarah K. wife of John M. Cook, William W. and John B. (above). Major Robert Bradford, grandfather of John B. was a Rev. War officer and was born in the east as was his wife Keziah Little, and they later settled in Belpre and had 4 children. John B. married September 30, 1877 here, to Olivia H. Dickson born Athens Co., Ohio August 12, 1845, daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Dawson) Dickens. BRADSHAW, Elisha - Born here August , 1836, son of David and Lydia (Hysell) Bradshaw. David born May 18, 1802 and Lydia born April 1805. Elisha married here September 16, 1858 to Mary J. Hanlin, born here September 1, 1842, daughter James and Mary A. (Frazier) Hanlin. James born September 8, 1801 and Mary born October 11, 1801. Elisha wounded in Civil war near Winchester, Va.
