George and brothers, Mathias and William in Civil war. George came from Germany in 1851, went first to N.Y., Cincinnati, Ohio, Ashland, Ky., then to this county 1855. He married here November 22, 1855, Margaretta Genheimer, born Bavaria, Germany September 12, 1835, daughter of Henry and Mary (Schlagel) Genheimer who came here in 1835 to this county. John and Margaretta had: Mary, Barbara, Henry, Sophia, Susanna, Margaretta, John, William. Lena, Charley and George. FRISBIE, Edward - Born here 1857, son of Nathaniel and Frances (Geroleman) Frisbie. Nathaniel born Salisbury, Conn., September 19, 1803 and moved with parents to Albany, N.Y. about 1810. At one time the father of Nathaniel owned land where city of Cleveland now stands. Nathaniel married Frances Geroleman (born January 17, 1812 in N.Y. City) in 1834, and came to this county where 11 children were born to them. Lived Chester. FLANEGIN, Thomas C - Born Delaware Co., Ohio January 23, 1829, son of James and Margaret (Cratty) Flanegin, both deceased. He married in Marietta and then here in 1873. Had Theodore, Arthur, Alma and Abbie. FITCH, Madison L. - Born Buffalo, N.Y. May 21, 1810, son of Joseph and Permelia (Hiller) Fitch. Joseph a soldier of War of 1812 and his father John Fitch served in Rev. war. Joseph and Permelia settled here in 1836 and both died in this county. Permelia died June 9, 1876. Madison married in Thompson Twp., Geauga Co., Ohio June 24, 1833 Sarah E. Bartlett born March 15, 1813, daughter of Joseph and Temperance (Pomeroy) Bartlett. Madison and Sarah Fitch had: Joseph, Permelia, Tirza, Cassius, Laster, Sarah, Irene and Temperance. Son Joseph died in Civil war. FOREMAN, Edward Rollins - Born Wood Co., W.Va., July 4, 1845, son of Joseph and Mary (Garmore) Foreman, later to this county. Edward R. married here, February 7, 1864 to Martha Jane Rice, born Gallia county, Ohio June 1, 1845, daughter of William and Rebecca (Cooper) Rice, who later went to Jackson Co., W.Va. Edward and Martha had: Charles, Nathan, Mary, Francis, Lillie, Minerva and Della. Edward R. in Civil war. Lived Great Bend, Ohio. FELLOWS, Benjamin F. - Born here January 30, 1843, son of Isaac H. and Eleanor (Johnson) Fellows, who settled here in 1825. He married here December 27, 1865, Mary L. Swan, daughter of Marvin and Margaret (Calder) Swan. They had: Winifred, Marvin, Katie, Arthur, Lucie, Wallace and Eliza. Benjamin in Civil war. Lived Long Bottom, Meigs Co., Ohio. FOLDEN, James H. - Born here August 11, 1851 son of James W. and Catherine (Clark) Folden. James W. a Virginian by birth and Catherine native of that part now W.Va. James H. married here February 4, 1874, Lovanda C. Forest, born here April 21, 1855, daughter of John and Miranda (Wilson) Forest. James H. and Lovanda had: Emory born January 10, 1876 and Emmet born February 27, 1877. They lived Hanesville, Meigs County, Ohio. GROVE, Abram - Born here October 9, 1859 son of Samuel and Catherine (Will) Grove. the father of Abram Grove was born Greene Co., Pa. June 14, 1839, and his parents were Samuel and Elizabeth (Campbell) Grove. Samuel Sr. born in Holland January 17, 1780, to America when a child to Penn., where he married his wife, who was born in Ireland July 2, 1794. Samuel Jr. here since year of birth and his wife Catherine born here. GRIMES, Edward H. - Born Gallia co., Ohio November 27, 1818, son of Felix and Nancy (Zinn) Grimes, here about 1824. Edward H. married here November 19, 1840, Almira Giles born here May 5, 1822, daughter of John S. and Betsy (Smith) Giles. Edward and Almira had: Emily, John, Andrew (lived Neb.) Jeheil, Royal, James (lived Kans.), Charles, Mary, George and Edward. Lived Rutland. GREEN, Aaron - Born here March 8, 1834, son of Owens and Keziah (Norris) Green. Owens born 1810, Keziah born 1817. To this county before surveyed. Owens died 1870 and Keziah died 1880. Aaron married here August 19, 1858, Catherine Driggs born Athens Co., Ohio August 14, 1834, daughter of George Driggs born 1792. Aaron and Catherine had: Cora, Mattie, Delmar, Ella and Elmot. GUTHERIE, Charles McKenzie - Born here July 232, 1831, son of Charles F. and Nancy (Cowdery) Gutherie. Charles F. born December 19, 1799 and Nancy born May 29, 1802, settled here in 1822. He died July 2, 1845 and she died August 1, 1880. Their son, Sardine in Civil war. Charles M. married here September 22, 1857 Susan Rebecca Hoffman, born Cumberland, Md., October 20, 1833, daughter of Peter and Susan (Ridenour) Hoffman. Peter born 1793, died August 5, 1882 and Susan born February, 1794 and died May 28, 1851, to this county in 1840. Charles and Susan had: Charles, Selden and Lycurgus. They lived Alfred, Ohio. GRANT, Edmund Sehon- Born here February 17, 1842, son of Royal C. Grant and Louvina (Fuller) Grant who settled here in 1816. Edmund S. married in Portsmouth, Ohio December 21, 1868, Mary H. Gregory born Scioto Co., Ohio December 13, 1846, daughter of Moses and Phebe (Corwin) Gregory who later lived Middleport, Ohio. Edmund and Mary had: Edith, Mary, Pearl, Edmund, Harry, Bertha and Norma. Edmund in Civil war. Lived Middleport, Ohio. GRANT, Samuel J. - Born here April 10, 1838 son of John and Mary (Grear Roup) Grant, who came here in 1817. Samuel J. married her June 17, 1860 Susan Elizabeth Nye born January 15, 1843, daughter of John M. and Nancy (Spiller) Nye. Samuel and Elizabeth had: Charles, Lizzie, Alex, Elva, Samuel Jr., Milton, Carleton, Mary, Bessie and Ruth. They lived Middleport, Ohio. GRANT, William H. - Born here February 6, 1820, son of Samuel and Hannah (Davis) Grant. Samuel to this county 1817, died here March 1867; Hannah died 1871. William married here August 9, 1842, Esther Hobart, born here September 3, 1819 daughter of daughter of William and ____ (Hugg) Hobart. William and Esther had: Electa, Electa, Callie, Wm. (lived Kans.) and Lucy. William in Civil war. GRESS, Valentine - Born Bavaria, Germany February 10, 1832, son of Nicholas and Mary (Regel) Gress. He married here April 1, 1853, Catherine Hergload, born Bavaria, Germany December 27, 1828, daughter of Henry H. and Catherine (Snyder) Hergload. Valentine and Catherine had: Mary, Peter, Kate and Frank. Valentine came to this county in 1847. Lived Minersville, Ohio. GILLILAN, Daniel - Born here May 29, 1827, son of Reuben and Lucy (Frost) Gillilan. Daniel Gillilan, father of Reuben came from N.Y. to Washington Co., Ohio in 1817 and to this county in 1824. Reuben had 2 sons in Civil war. Daniel Jr. married here May 4, 1851 Lydia Spiller born Jefferson Co., Ohio February 22, 1825, daughter of Thomas Jackson and Susanna (Spitler) Spiller, who came here in 1839. Daniel and Lydia had: W.D., E.M., T.J.L., H.S., J.D., M.A.L.V., and G.V. (sic). Lydia died July 8, 1882. They lived Racine, Meigs Co., Ohio. GREEN, Finley Gregg - Born here September 8, 1853, son of Charles and Eliza (Blizzard) Green. Charles a pioneer here and here he died in 1878. Finley married in Athens Co., Ohio in 1879. Lois Wheeler born Athens Co. November 11, 1862, daughter of William and Catherine (Stumbach) Wheeler. GRATE, Jahu - Born Columbiana Co., Ohio May 3, 1827 son of Peter and Vilinda (Barton) Grate, to this county with parents in 1839. Peter was a native of Columbiana County, born November 7, 1805 and wife Vilinda born in Md. August 1, 1808. Jahu married here January 1, 1852, Eliza Ward, daughter of Robert and Phebe (Smith) Ward. She died April 16, 1856. They had: Phebe and Cornelius. Jahu married 2nd here February 18, 1858, Esther Smith born here June 17, 1838, daughter of George R. and Esther (Grover) Smith, who settle here in 1820. George Smith was born in London, England, died January 16, 1860 and wife Esther born Essex Co., Mass. died April 1842. Jahu and Esther had: George, Solomon, Irena, James, Warren, Alfred Warren and Lora. They lived Salem Centre, Meigs County, Ohio. GILLOGLY, Henry r. born Greene Co., Pa. February 10, 1837, here age 2 with parents, William and Theresa (Sargeant) Gillogly. Henry married here March 6, 1856 Caroline M. Stout, born here August 29, 1832, daughter of John B. and Nancy (Mangold) Stout. They had William, John, Alonzo, Ellsworth, Finley and Sarah. Lived, Mt. Blanco, Meigs Co., Ohio. GOTSCHALL, Daniel - Born Harrison Co., Ohio February 11, 1831, son of Daniel and Mary Gotschall. He married in Harrison County May 20, 1855, Catherine Haun born Harrison County January 4, 1835, daughter of John and Catherine (Schilling) Haun. They came here in 1861. Had: John, George and Mary. GREGORY, Isaac - Born here January 10, 1830, son of James and Matilda (Rays) Gregory. He married in Vinton Co., Ohio July 26, 1847 _____, Reed, born Harrison Co., W.Va., October 25, 1832, daughter of Miner and Margaret Reed who came here in 1845. They had: James, Martha, Sylvanus, Margaret, Thomas, William, George, Samuel, Selina and Jettie. GREGORY, James L. - Born Vinton Co., Ohio July 21, 1837, son of John R. and Elizabeth (Queen) Gregory. James L. married in Vinton Co., Ohio September 4, 1863, Caroline M. Clark, daughter of Stephen and Amanda (Cunning) Clark. James and Caroline had: Amanda, John r.C., Stephen A., and Bertha. He married May 23, 1869 Ada Hutsinpiller born in this county August 2, 1847, daughter of David and Maria Hutsinpiller (see previously) Robert had brothers and sisters William died young, Harriet, Letitia, Eleanor, Margaret, James (surgeon in Civil war), John, (Samuel), Robert and Mary. JENKINS, David T. - Born May 6, 1843, Jackson Co., Ohio, son of Thomas and Leah (Evans) Jenkins. Thomas and Leah settled in this county 1857 and they had besides David, William T., Evan T., Mary, John T., Walter, T., Daniel T. and Elizabeth. Leah died 1873. David T. married 1870 Jane Isaac born in Wales April 20, 1857, daughter of John and Mary (Phillips) Isaac who settled in this county 1848 and had besides Jane, John I., David, Elizabeth, William, Isaac N. and Mary A. David and John died 1859. David and Jane had 7 children. JENKINS, Evan T. - Brother of David T. (above) born December 22, 1848 at Cambria Furnace, Jackson Co., Ohio. He married 1870 Mary Ann Evans, born April 14, 1851, this county, daughter of David & Ann Evans. Her father died 1851 and her mother was born 1812. Evan's mother was born 1818. Evan and Mary had 5 children. JENKINS, George W - Born April 6, 1837, son of William and Elizabeth (Williams) Jenkins. He married September 29, 1858 Abigail White, daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Angel) White. Abigail born February 9, 1838, Clay Twp. They had 4 children. JOHNSTON, James - Born May 12, 1834, this county, son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Cherrington) Johnston (see previously). He married 1857 Augusta Bradbury born February 11, 1840 daughter of Asa and Electa (Harding) Bradbury. They had 3 children. He was a surgeon in Civil war. KERR, Charles W. - Born April 22, 1851 in this county, son of John N. and Caroline (Cherrington) Kerr. He married November 6, 1873 in this county, Ibbie J. Watts, born April 2, 1855, Greenbrier Co., W.Va., daughter of Ross S. and Susan (Bunger) Watts who came to this county, 1852. They have 4 children: Frank born 1874, Homer born 1876, Ross born 1879 and Merrill born 1881. KERR, Samuel J. - Half brother of Charles W. (above) was born November 6, 1845, son of John N. and Isabella (Morrison) Kerr. He married 1st Sarah E. Mills born November 6, 1845, daughter of Benjamin F. and Agnes Mills. They had Benjamin F. born March 23, 1853 in this county, daughter of Ross S. and Susan (Bunger) Watts. They were married November 10, 1874 and had Nellie born 1876, Augustus P, 1878 and Ibbie 1880. Samuel J. served in Civil war 1862-1865. KEYE, Frederick H.J. - Born February 10, 184, in Hasselfeld, Brunswick, Germany, son of Henry and Fredericka (Nierenberg) Keye. He married June 1852 in Hasselfeld Christina F.W. Kroter, daughter of _____ and Wilhelmiena Kroter. She was born 1828, Rithzithe, Warningerrode, Germany and died in Germany 1867. They had 5 children. Here 1868. KERR, John Nisewanger - Father of Charles W. and Samuel J. (previously) born December 15, 1804, in this county, son of John and Christina (Nisewanger) Kerr who settled here in 1802. John Kerr was one of the earliest settlers in the county. John N. Kerr married 1st Isabella Morrison born April 11, 1827 in this county, daughter of William and Ann (Ireland) Morrison. They had Mary A., Augustus P., John R., Maria C., James M., Susan C., William M. and Samuel J. He married 2nd Caroline Cherrington, August 25, 1846, born October 6, 1821 in this county, daughter of John and Ruth (Knox) Cherrington. They had: Charles W., Harriet (Mills), Charles Warren, Fannie H. (Hutsinpiller), Edward E., Cassius C., Aleri M. KENNEDY, Cornelius W. - Born February 1, 1826, this county, son of Cornelius and Jane (Waugh) Kennedy. His father born 1790, died 1833, his mother born October 8, 1795, died 1865; and they were among first settlers in this county. Their first physician was Dr. Shallcross. Cornelius W. married November 14, 1850, in Harrison Twp. Frances E. Smith born August 31, 1831, in this county, daughter of William E. and Margaret (Waugh) Smith. Her father born August 15, 1786, died November 26, 1849; her mother born December 22, 1794, died January 6, 1860. The grandfather of Mr. Kennedy, George Waugh died March 8, 1858, age 88 years, and Susan his wife died May 10, 1855, age 93 years. Mr. Kennedy's father was soldier of War of 1812 and Mr. Kennedy was in Civil war. Cornelius W. and Francis had: Sallemma, Franklin M., Charles D., (lived Oregon), Andrew J., Elizabeth F., Emma F., Leslie W., and Emma F. KING, William A. - Born February 9, 1845, in Ohio Twp., son of Enos and Elizabeth (Sanders) King, who came to this county 1825. He married Mary Evans, daughter of Evan and Eliza (Edwards) Evans, in 1868. She was born Ohio Twp., November 25, 1840 and had married 1st Cornelius Chambers and had one child. William and Mary had 6 children. KELLER, Robert N - Born November 22, 1837 in Perry Twp., died 1877, son of Abraham and Susannah (Newsom) Keller. His father born 1787 died 1846; his mother died 1851. He married Adeliza P. Ripley, born August 11, 1837 in Perry Twp., daughter of Ammon and Pamelia (Rekard) Ripley. Her grandfather, Joshua Ripley in War of 1812 and her brother Orville in Civil War, as was her husband. They had 7 children. Son Calvin removed to Oakdale, Nebraska. KNIGHT, John J. - Born January 25, 1838 in Wittenberg, Germany, son of Jacob and Barbara (Hummel) Knight who came to this county 1860, to America 1852. He married Hannah Goff, born August 31, 1846 in Canada, daughter of Abraham and Mary (Fair) Goff. They had 7 children. KING, Moses A. - Born January 23, 1820 in Preston Co., W.Va., son of Enos and Phebe (Pugh) King. he married Margaret V. Pollock, 1844, born Pollock, both deceased. They had 5 children.
