A Kind and Good Woman Lays Down Life's Burdens The subject of this brief sketch, Letitia Eckert, was born at Findley, Ohio, July 14, 1849; departed this life at her home, 5 miles northwest of Carson, IA, after a lingering illness Feb. 17, 1914; age 64 years, 7 months and 3 days. She was united in marriage to Albert Stone at Findley, Ohio, Nov., 5, 1871. This union was blessed with six children, three sons and three daughters, as follows: Van, at home; John W., of Danbury, IA; Mrs. Charles Harbert, of Council Bluffs, IA; Mrs. Pleasant Hecker, of Carson, IA, William and Mrs. Frank Fichter, the last two named deceased. She was one of a family of ten children, five of whom survive her. She united in early life with the Church of Christ at Findley, Ohio, and has remained steadfast in the faith until death. She now enters into the joy of her Lord, receiving the crown of life promised the faithful. She was one of the best women, of a most tender and loving disposition, highly respected and loved by all who knew her. She had been for more than a year in declining health, so that her death was not unexpected. She was patiently awaiting the call to enter into the rest promised to those "who die in the Lord." She requested that hymns dear to her in life should be sung at the funeral and that the loved ones left behind should meet her "bye and bye" in the glory world. She leaves to the loving husband and children a rich legacy - the memory of an unselfish life spent in the interest of the loved ones and in doing good unto all with whom she associated. She leaves to mourn her departure the loving husband, children, eleven grandchildren, brothers, sisters, other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral service was held at the home in the presence of a large concourse of sympathizing neighbors and friends on Thursday afternoon, February 19, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by P. H. Green. Her favorite hymns were sung by the following: Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Allensworth, Marguerite Osler, A. C. Sivers, Misses Ella and Elma Gehrman, with Miss Harriot Osler, organist. The floral offerings by relatives and friends were profuse and beautiful. Interment was made in the Carson Cemetery. Eckert, Hancock Cty OBITUARY (from Oakland Iowa, name of paper unknown) PROMINENT FARMER DIES SUDDENLY __________ Stricken with paralysis and dies in few hours __________ Funeral Held Tuesday Morning in Charge of P. Brother Eckert was in his usual good health, attending attentively to the duties on the farm the day and even the hour when he was stricken down by the great enemy of the human family - Death. He was in the driveway of the barn, when stricken with paralysis. This occurred on Saturday, June 17, about 11:30 a.m. He was tenderly carried to the home by his son Ray, where he continued in a state of unconsciousness until 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon, when the spirit gently slipped away from its tenement of clay to be with God who gave it. Brother Eckert was a man of strong convictions, very decided in his opinions, having his likes and dislikes. Having very little sympathy with those acting a hypocritical part in life, he hated shams and make-believes. Strictly sincere and honorable in all his dealings, his word was as good as his bond, and he loved to see these characteristics manifested in others. He had the greatest respect for the church and for the members who were earnest and sincere in their professions. He was a loving father, ever exercising tender and affectionage parental care over his children whol he loved so dearly. He was a true friend, a good neighbor, sociable and exceedingly friendly and jovial. He will be missed by his loved ones, his many friends and acquaintances. He leaves to mourn his departure the loving children, one brother, Lorenzo Eckert of Mentone, Ind., four sisters, Mrs. Mona Sough of Findley, Ohio, Mrs. Emma Lash of Mentone, Ind., Mrs. Eddie Wilson of Gordon, Nebraska and Mrs. Letitia Stone of Carson, Iowa, all of whom were present at the funeral. WILLIAM ROCKEY William Rockey was born on June 16, 1827, and departed this life on March 16, 1914, at 7 oclock in the evening, aged 86 years and 9 month. He is survived by a brother, 3 sons, and as many daughters-in-law, 6 daughters and 6 sons-in-law, 25 grand children, 16 great grandchildren and a great many other relatives as well as a wide circle of friends. Since the death of his wife in August of last year, he had been making his home with several of his children, his last stay being with his son William. For years he had been in very feeble health and therefore confined to the house most of the time. His steadily increasing deafness made it exceedingly difficult to converse with him, and this in turn afforded him ample opportunity for brooding over various things, making the task of caring for him a rather trying one at times. His end came suddenly, but peaceably, and without any apparent signs of pain and suffering. The main events of his earlier life are related in a sketch prepared by his deceased wife several years ago, when the feebleness of old age made her realize that this information would soon be needed. She writes as follows: William ROCKEY was born on June 16, 1827, at Nieseruheine, in the Zellerthal of the Rhenish Palatinate, Germany. His parents were William RACKE and Dorothy (nee) ELER. He was baptized in his infancy and in 1840 was confirmed in the Protestant church at Zell. In 1845 he came to America with his parents, living with them in Crawford county, O., until 1851. In that year he was married to Katharine GANGLOFF. This union was blessed with 4 children, who all survive their father. After the death of his first wife he again married in 1859. His second wife was Christina RACKE. To them were born 10 children, 5 of whom died at a youthful age. In 1865 he moved with his family to Williams county and the remainder of his life has been spent here. Together with his parents and brother and sisters he joined the Ev-Lutheran church and is spite of all the storms has remained faithful to the Lutheran confession. The Lord grant him grace and peace in his old age, and a blessed end through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 19, from the Lutheran church. Interment in Edon cemetery. ------------------------------ X-Message: #6 Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 18:18:55, -0500 From: AUPQ38A@prodigy.com (MRS GINA M REASONER) Subject: CHARLES L.
