When hope has met with searing blight, The outlook bleak and stern, There's many a man, though resolute, Who from his course would turn But for the trust his wife instilled; A trust of true concern. Where'er her man his claim might stake The wife was satisfied. In house of logs, or prairie-sod, She let her love abide; Her lasting faith, in things to come, Could never be denied. Her brood she reared, with watchful care, She kept them safe from harm, But, when she heard the werewolf's howl, She knew a grave alarm: 'Twas many a time she stood on guard, A rifle on her arm. The young who suckled at her breast, A vastly throng have grown; They've raised a tablet in her name: A state without a throne. No longer do the werewolves howl, No longer are they known. Though feats of men the annals tell, (The feats of grenadiers) Throughout the fabric of our land A silken thread appears: The weft of strength the women wrought, The wives of pioneers. ------------------------------ X-Message: #3 Date: Mon, 31 May 1999 09:42:00, -0500 From: AUPQ38A@prodigy.com (MRS GINA M REASONER) Subject: EARLY OHIO NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS OHIO The cross road of our nation Records & Pioneer Families July - September 1962 Vol. III No. III Published by Esther Weygandt Powell - NO COPYRIGHT CLIPPINGS FROM EARLY OHIO NEWSPAPERS THE DAYTON REPERTORY 1818, Oct. 8 - The petition of GEORGE YOUNT; ANDREW SINKS and CAMILLA his wife of Montgomery County, Ohio; JOHN WILLIAMS and POLLY, his wife, of Miami; RICHARD ROBBINS and REBECCA, his wife and PHILIP SHANKS and ROSANNA, his wife, of Darke County, Ohio, and aforesaid heirs of GEORGE YOUNT, deceased; by HENRY BACON, their attorney.
