TO ANTELOPE COUNTY JOSIAH McKIRAHAN from Belmont Co., Ohio pre-empted Claim No. 957, Nov. 2, 1868. This was the first deed executed in the county. CRANDALL HOPKINS who came here from Cuyahoga Co., Ohio in November 1868 made the first settlement. O.P. HURFORD was born in Canton, Stark Co., Ohio in 1831. At the age of 22 years he emigrated to Nebraska in 1856. He arrived in Omaha with wife and one daughter, Elta in 1857. He had hardware store and mills. D.V. COE born in Knox Co., Ohio. In 1856 went to Independence, Iowa. Enlisted in Iowa Infantry. Came here in 1870 and took a homestead. Had a hotel. TO BOONE COUNTY W.L. NELSON, atty., was born in Stark County, Ohio, January 2, 1839. He was married near Canton in 1865 to Miss Kate Kaler who was born in Stark Co., Ohio. He enlisted in Stark County in 1862 in Co. B. He moved to Columbus, Nebraska in 1871. He spent some time in Iowa and Missouri before going to Nebraska. 2 children. C.A. OBLINGER was born in Montgomery Co., Ohio in 1847. He was married at Germantown, Ohio in 1871 to Miss Maggie Hetzler of Montgomery Co. Had 2 children, Elmer and Maud. He moved to Nebraska in 1875 and was a farmer. JOHN PETERS was born at Alton, Ill. in 1844. He married in Brighton, Ill. in 1867 Miss Sarah Widaman, a native of Montgomery Co., Ohio. In 1872 he went to Nebraska. They had 5 children: Norman, Blanche, Leona, Nellie and Guy. JOEL BERRY farmer born in Rockingham Co., Va., June 24, 1810. His parents moved to Fairfield Co., Ohio when he was quite young. In 1830 he married Miss Mary Befler who died in 1879. They had: Joshua, Elizabeth, Magdalena, Emily, Isabella, Mary and Samuel. He moved to Seneca Co., Ohio in 1823. Later to Noble Co., Ind. and Richland Co., Wisc. and in 1871 to Nebraska. He married in 1881 to Mrs. Mary A. Borton. M.J. THOMPSON, postmaster was born in Nelson, Portage Co., Ohio in 1845. He went to Nebraska in 1867. He married in 1869 Miss Lydia Collins who was born at Camden, Maine. They had 2 children: George M. and Luella Blanche. HON. GEORGE W. BROWN, farmer born in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, March 9, 1842. While an infant his parents moved to Harrison Co., Ohio. In 1862 he enlisted in Co. K. 69th Ohio Inf. In 1869 he married Miss Rachel A. Craig and had Ellis G., Clara and Bertha. In Ohio was admitted to the bar. Later he moved to Nebraska. TO BURT COUNTY WILLIAM N. HAYWOOD a native of Knox Co., Ohio. In 1847 with parents to Jefferson Co., Iowa and in 1857 to Nebraska. Controlled about 4,000 acres. W.W. LATTA, live stock and farming, a native of Ashland Co., Ohio. He married Mary A. Mason, daughter of John R. Mason in 1857 in Clinton Co., Iowa. He went to Jackson Co., Iowa in 1853 and to Nebraska in 1857. Owned 2,100 acres. J.P. LATTA born in Ashland Co., Ohio in 1844, married Libby Jonas in Iowa. E. SHAFFER, hardware merchant. He is a native of Knox Co., Ohio, went with father to Jefferson Co., Iowa in 1844 and in 1857 to Nebraska. W.N. BUCK farmer, a native of Medina Co., Ohio went to Mo., Iowa, and Ill. In 1863 to Nebraska. DAVID CLARK, farmer was born Aug. 20, 1815 in Jefferson Co., N.Y. At the age of ten years came with parents to Lorain Co., Ohio. He married in that county, Miss Lucy A. Foster in 1841. Served in Co. K, Ohio Inf. To Nebraska in 1867. They had Hiram G. and Emily (Mennell). W.A. CLARK farmer born in Harrison Co., Ohio. To Nebraska in 1868. WILLIAM S. CRAIG a native of Harrison Co., Ohio. To Nebraska in 1870. He owned about 1800 acres of land. TO BUFFALO COUNTY WINFIELD S. BALL, was born in Bloomingburg, Fayette Co., Ohio, March 26, 1843. He married there in 1867 to Lissie Larrimer of the same place. He served in the Civil War. Later went to Johnson Co., Mo., then to Atchinson Co., Mo. and here in 1878. Have 3 children; Mary L., Howard Manning, and Albert Oscar. REV. GEORGE T. CRISSMAN, born Milroy, Mifflin Co., Pa. At the age of 5 years he removed with his father's family to Adams Co., Ohio. He married in Portage City, Wisc. in 1865 to Miss Augusta E. Osborne born Hadley, Mass. in 1840. Here in 1879. Had 2 daughters, Mary and Bessie. FRANK J. GIBBS born Troy, Ohio July 1, 1853; married in Kearney, Nebraska Miss Emma A. Brigham of Warsaw, N.Y. Here in 1877. Had Suie B. and Henry L. SEHON W. POWERS born in Ellsworth, Mahoning Co., Ohio June 3, 1844. He married in Portage County, Ohio to Miss Martha Holly and had Miranda and John Wesley. She died in 1878 and he married 2nd Sylvia M. McNish of Berlin, Wisc. Here in 1873. CHARLES ROBERT STIMPSON born Huron Co., Ohio, February 4, 1833. He went to Minneapolis, Minn., to Lake Minnetonka and married there in 1862 to Miss Arvilla Harrington of Ashtabula Co., Ohio. Have 5 children. Here in 1872. Served in Civil war. H.L. STRONG born Norwalk, Huron Co., Ohio, April 19, 1837; married in Nauvoo, Ill. in 1859 to Miss Arathusa Putman of Putman, Ohio. Here in 1877. WILLIAM T. BEATTY born in Clermont Co., Ohio Sept. 11, 1817, served in Civil War; then moved to Muncie, Ind. for 5 years and then came to Gibbons, Nebraska in 1872. He married in Clermont Co., Ohio June 28, 1838 to Miss Miriam Everson of Cincinnati, Ohio. They had: Mary, Benj., Acenith, John M. and George S. BENJAMIN F. CRAIG was born in Washington Co., Ohio June 27, 1856. His parents moved to Pennsboro, W.Va. and lived there until 1871 and then came here. M.A. HOSTETLER born in Green Co., Wisc. Feb. 7, 1857; married in Shelton, Nebraska in 1880, Miss Ella Doggett of Hillsboro, Ohio. HARRISON A. LEE born in Farmington, Trumbull Co., Ohio, Oct. 4, 1837; married in N. Bloomfield, Trumbull Co., Ohio to Miss Mary C. Snyder, born in Brookfield, that county, Oct. 3, 1838. They moved to Gibbon, Nebraska in 1871. Had daughter, Louisa. TO BUTLER COUNTY EDWARD COOPER born in Ohio, Mar. 24, 1839; came to this county in 1874. He married in 1861, Miss Emily J. Willis. They had 3 children. He served in Civil War. D.C. HARRISON born in Scotland, Mar. 20, 1848 in 1853 settled with his parents in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1858 he settled in Hocking co., Ohio. Here in 1878. HIRAM H. MILLER born in Trumbull Co., Ohio Nov. 11, 1840; to Nebraska in 1878. He married in 1869 to Miss Anna Tobey of Providence, R.I. Served in Civil War. FREDERICK E. WILSON born Middlebury, Vt., Nov. 15, 1829, son of Calvin and Maria Wilson who settled in Butler Co., Ohio in 1856. He married in 1849, to Margaret McCann who died in 1864. He married 2nd in 1866 Pamelia Jarrard. Here in 1871. JAMES P. DUNLAP, born Gasconde Co., Mo., Mar. 5, 1845, son of Nelson and Mahala Dunlap, of Rockbridge Co., W.Va. His mother was a sister of Lewis McFarland of Camp Point of Adams Co., Ill. whose ancestors were early settlers of Miami Co., Ohio. He married in Nebraska in 1870 to Miss Christina Campbell, daughter of Peter Campbell. They had: Nelson, Agnes, Christina and Patience. TO CASS COUNTY JACOB ADAMS born in Surry Co., N.C., Sept. 13, 1914; at 5 years of age was in Ohio. He married in Andrew Co., Mo. in 1844 to Rachel Wiles, a native of that place. Came to this county in 1864; died 1874. Had Elizabeth, Loveria, Lydia and William Thomas. Elizabeth married Hon. Samuel maxwell, Chief Justice of Nebraska. CYRUS ALTON born DeKalb Co., Ind., Jan. 4, 1841. He taught school in Ohio. To Nebraska in 1872 and was pastor of First Christian Church. REV. JOHN T. BAIRD born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1834; educated at Yale University. He came here in 1864. He married at Brownsville, Nebraska in 1875 to Maria G. Wood, a native of New Orleans, La. They had: William N., Mary and Caroline. JOHN BLACK, M.D. born in Huntington, Pa., Nov. 22, 1817. He practiced in Lake, Marion and Coshocton Counties, Ohio, and also in Delaware County, Ohio. Came to Plattsmouth, Nebraska in 1861. He married in Mansfield, Ohio in 1843 to Sarah P. Buttery, a native of England. They had Charles, Frederick and Nellie (Smith). JOHN BLACK, M.D. born in England, Nov. 14, 1821; came to America in 1838 and resided with his parents in Ohio. He practiced in Marion Co., Ohio until 1854. He came to Plattsmouth, Nebraska in 1863. JONAS H. BUTTERY born in Mansfield, July 6, 1832. He lived in Ashland, Ohio, Illinois, and Iowa. Then here in 1857. He married in Plattsmouth, Nebraska to Margaret E. Jacobs, a native of Penna. They had: John, Marquis, Frank and Adelaide E. SHADRACH COLE born in Pickaway Co., Ohio, Mar. 14, 1819. He married in Pickaway County, Ohio in 1846 to Nancy Killer of that county. He came to Plattsmouth area in Nebraska in 1857. Nancy died in 1882 leaving 8 children: Zerah W., Mary, Alice, Shadrach O., Ida, Alva, Stephen and Ransom M. WILLIAM T. COLE born Shelby Co., Ohio, Nov. 18, 1838; came to Plattsmouth area in 1867 after serving in Civil War. He married in Pickaway Co., Ohio in 1865 to Harriet A. Peters, a native of that place. They had Ella E. and Elmer E. JOHN C. CUMMINS born Rushville, Ind. Apr. 5, 1831; to Plattsmouth, Nebraska area in 1857. His brother S.H. Cummins also here. John married at Afton, Iowa to Salena Colvin, a native of Ohio, in 1857. Had Charles, Edgar, Frank and Ada. JACOB GRASSMAN born in Germany, Oct. 28, 1830; to Pike Co., Ohio with parents at age of 9 years. He married in Pike Co., Ohio in 1857 to Kate Laub, a native of Germany. They had: Caroline, Michael, Charles, Wesley and Edward. EDWIN S. GRENSEL born at Detroit, Mich., Aug. 22, 1845. He married at Dallas City, Ill. in 1869 to Laura H. Bailey, a native of Wellsville, Ohio. Had 3 children. Went to Plattsmouth, Nebraska area in 1867. DR. JOHN L. McCREA born in Butler, Ohio in July 1827. Came to Plattsmouth, Nebraska in 1870 after practicing some years in Iowa. MARSHALL McELWAIN born in Portage Co., Ohio, Aug. 18, 1835. Came to Plattsmouth, Nebraska in 1857. Served in Nebraska State Militia. He married here in 1866 to Sarah E. Harper a native of Ill. Had Bertie, Myron, Roy and Rena. ANDREW W. McLAUGHLIN born in Morgan Co., Ohio in 1833. To Nebraska in 1873. WM. NELSON McLENNAN, Atty. born in Steubenville, Ohio, Oct. 1854. Here in 1881. MICHAEL B. MURPHY born in Ireland in Sept. 1839; to Detroit, Mich. with parents in 1841, to Nebraska in 1863. He married at Ottumwa, Iowa in 1860 America A. Baker who died in 1868 leaving 3 children. He married 2nd in 1873 Frances Mitchell of Ohio. DAVID MILLER was born in Washington Co., Ohio in 1849. In 1856 he removed with his parents to Ottumwa, Iowa and in 1871 to Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He married there in 1873 to Mrs. Irish, formerly Miss Mattie Mitchell, a native of Ohio. LLEWELLYN A. MOORE, florist was born in Champaign, Co., Ohio, Mar. 3, 1854. Went to Plattsmouth, Nebraska with parents in 1856. WILLIAM H. NEWELL born Center Co., Penna., Dec. 3, 1837. At 17 years of age removed to Scioto Co., Ohio. He served in Civil War then came to Cass Co., Nebraska in 1870. He married at Bloom Station, Scioto Co., Ohio to Matilda Searle, a native of that place. They had: Bertha, Mary, Ella, Jas. and Josephine. LEONIDAS QUINN born in Preble Co., Ohio, Aug. 6, 1833. At age of 5 removed with parents to Scott Co., Iowa and then to Nebraska in 1857. He married at Rock Bluff in 1867 to Margaret J. Murray, a native of Missouri. Had 4 children. SAMUEL L. THOMAS born in Guernsey Co., Ohio, Oct. 14, 1835 and came to Nebraska with his parents in 1856. He married in Glenwood, Iowa in 1861 to Sarah A. Shields, a native of Johnson Co., Ind. They had: Walter, William and Louis S. AMMI B. TODD born in Chautauqua Co., N.Y. Removed with his parents to Ohio at three years of age, later to Owen Co., Ind. and here in 1857. He married here in 1871 to Margaret Thomas, widow of Wm. L. Thomas. By 1st husband had Leila and Harry Thomas. JACOB VALLERY, Sr. born in Germany in 1813. He came to Pike Co., Ohio in 1836 and to Nebraska in 1856. He was married in Pike Co., Ohio to Mary Vallery, a native of Germany. They had Mary, Jacob, Louisa, Lotta, Peter, Conrad, John and Christinia. JOHN P. YOUNG born in Pike Co., Ohio, July 20, 1846. he came to Plattsmouth in 1872.
