I did not have it marked as sent. Miami Union Obit Sept. 3, 1903 David Rodkey Albaugh, the eldest son of Samuel and Anna Albaugh, was born November 5, 1829 and died August 27, 1903, aged 73 years, 9 months and 22 days. He was one of six children of whom Mary Ann, Noah and Frank are still living. Lucy and Susan have been dead for several years. He was reared on the old "Wolf Pen Hill" Farm a few miles southeast of Potsdam and being the eldest son took an active part in clearing the forest and establishing the home so much enjoyed by all members of the family. By taking advantage of the opportunities then offered, upon arriving at his majority he was enabled to teach school several terms. He spent his entire life as a citizen of Union township. He held a number of offices of trust, one of them being justice of the peace for 15 years. He probably settled more estates than any other citizen of Union township. He was a man a of much more than ordinary judgment. It has been said by those in authority that higher courts never reversed his decisions in cases taken on transcripts form his docket. He was married to Martha J. Murphey, March 5, 1857. To them were born seven children, of whom five are living. Porter and Harvey having preceded their father. The highest of his ambition with his family was to have them secure the best education with the means at hand. He made many sacrifices for the welfare of his family and others. He took a great interest in education and all means of elevating mankind. His counsel was much sought by those in trouble or distress and was continuously found helping others less fortunate in life. About twenty-six yeas ago he united with the Christina church at Laura, was baptized by Rev. Isaac Waymire, and retained his membership there until the time of his death. He often expressed a desire that all God's people might unite in one common effort for the upbuilding of Christ's kingdom. During his last illness he was reconciled and submissive to the Master's will, saying, "If this is the way the Master has to bring me nearer to Him it is all right." He was loved most by those who knew him best. He leaves a wife, five children, two brothers, one sister and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death. Funeral services were conducted by Enos Pemberton and Isaac Waymire in the Dunkard church at Potsdam. ______________________________ ------------------------------ X-Message: #5 Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1999 03:45:06 -0500 From: "Maggie Stewart" To: OH-FOOTSTEPS-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <01d501bf2db3$62d22b80$0300a8c0@local.net> Subject: Fw: Ida M. Hurley Albaugh Obit. Found this obit cut out of either a West Milton or Miami Co newspaper. I believe there should be more, but it is missing. IDA HURLEY ALBAUGH Was born on a farm near Dayton on Feb. 25, 1862. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Ester Tressler Hurley and was of a family of six children. She grew to maturity in West Milton. On Nov. 4, 1880 when in the bloom of young womanhood, she was united in marriage with Albert Albaugh for more than 40 years they followed the occupation of farming, living that entire period in the vicinity of Potsdam. Following the death of her husband in 1924 she removed to West Milton where she continued to reside until death claimed her. Into this home established long ago three children were born, all of whom remain to mourn the homegoing of a devoted, Christina mother. She became a Christian in the tender years of life. Thus her godly influence was shed over her children. Many year ago she joined the United Brethren Church at Potsdam , where she served in various ways. She was a Sunday school teacher, she worked with little children, she assisted with the music and she was dependable in any Christina task to which she committed herself. Her church and her family were her consuming interests. For many months past she suffered, but she bore up patiently confident that the Infinite One would sustain her to the end. Finally, on Saturday even, April 3, 1937, her body and soul were separated and she saw her Savior face to face, at the age of seventy-five years, one month and eight days. She is survived by one son, Leonard; two daughters Alma Younce and Esther Longenecker; eight grandchildren, and one great (Should be more, but it is missing) ______________________________ ------------------------------ X-Message: #6 Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1999 03:45:38 -0500 From: "Maggie Stewart" To: OH-FOOTSTEPS-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <01db01bf2db3$761a6360$0300a8c0@local.net> Subject: Fw: Clarence M. Albaugh Obit. Found this obit, it was cut out of a newspaper from either West Milton or Miami Co., OH. Mickey OBIT: Clarence M. Albaugh Son of B.F. and Priscilla M. Albaugh, was born at West Milton, Ohio, October 24, 1860 and departed this life April 16, 1917, aged 56 years, 5 months and 22 days. May 21, 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Lilley and to the home thus established he has always given the full measure of his devotion. To this union two daughters, Bertha and Lilley were born. In his early manhood he engaged in school teaching. After this he became a railway mail clerk which he quit to enter into the lumber business at West Milton eleven years age. Heeding the exhortation of the wise man, "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy Youth," he united with the Christian church and remained a consistent member until death. Through the church he served his God liberally with his time, talents and means. He always did his part and never hesitated to assume the part that ought to have been done by some careless of indifferent one. Finding great delight in music and having much ability along that line he served the church as chorister until declining health made it necessary for him to give it over to another. At the time of his death he was a deacon in the church and also financial secretary. The West Milton Record of this week under the heading of "A Splendid Citizen Gon" said, "Milton has lost one of its noble and splendid citizens, churchmen and business men in the death of C.M. Albaugh." This is an expression of the sentiment of the entire community. He held membership in two fraternal order the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Masonic Order. Besides his wife and daughters he is survived by his aging parents of Covington and three sisters and five brothers: Mrs. Emma Wright, Troy; Mrs. Dora Hale and Mrs. Lillian Vause, Columbus; Edwin S., Columbus; Herbert S., Franklin; Ray, Bellefontaine; Maurice, Quincey; and Ellis, San Antonio, Texas. Not only these mourn, bur a church that has met a great loss, a community in whose welfare he was always actively interested, business associates who valued his integrity and a very large circle of friends. -------------------------------- End of OH-FOOTSTEPS-D Digest V99 Issue #783 *******************************************
