For weeks her condition was such that her death was not unexpected at any time. She lived far beyond the years of the average person and was one of Louisville's oldest residents. Mrs. Hattria's maiden name was Ludivine Menegay and she was born in Mandeau, Department of Doubs, France, August 15, 1821. She came with her parents to America in 1848, during the time of the up-rising against the royalty of Europe. The family passed through Paris at the time Louis Philippi was forced from the throne of France. They came to Louisville which at that time was largely made up of French people, and Mrs. Hattria lived here for sixty years. There were seven children in the family and all have passed away save Louis E. Menegay, of Louisville. Joseph Hattria, husband of the deceased, was killed in the old Star Mill at Louisville, 55 years ago. He was caught in the fly wheel of the engine, and his life was crushed out. For many years Mrs. Hattria resided with her son, Charles Hattria, who provided every comfort and care for her. He is the only living child of a family of four. Funeral services will be held at St. Louis Catholic church at 9 o'clock sun time, Friday morning, and will be conducted by Rev. Francis Senner. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. Menegay was sick for several weeks and his death was caused by paralysis. His father was Claude Joseph Menegay, who came to America with his family in 1828, and settled just west of where Louisville now is. Here he acquired 1000 acres of land and gave 80 acres to each member of his family of eleven children. The house which he built is yet standing but it was remodeled some years ago. It is related that the first Catholic service in this section was held by missionary priests in the Menegay home. Simon Menegay was born at the old homestead in 1830 and with the exception of five years, during which he resided in Louisville, spent his entire life there. In 1850, he and Miss Elizabeth Monnot were married and they lived happily together until 1882, when Mrs. Menegay died. The children who are living are: Louis Menegay, of Cleveland; Eugene Menegay, of Canton; Charles X. Menegay, of Canton; Frank X. Menegay, of Chippewa Lake; Henry Menegay, of Canton; Mrs. Eugenia Faivre, of Dewitt, Mich; Mrs. Louis Ley, of Canton; and Miss Annie Menegay, of Louisville. One son, Joseph Menegay, died some years ago. Mr. Menegay held the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. He was a life-long Democrat and held the office of trustee of Nimishillen township for several terms. He was a faithful and earnest member of St. Louis church and was on the church council for more than forty years. Funeral services were held at St. Louis church on Tuesday morning and the attendance was very large. The services were conducted by Rev. Francis Senner, the pastor. The pall bearers were; John Jacquet, Josiah McKimm, John S. Myers, A.J. Zelger, Frank Paumier, and A.J. Metzger. The remains were entombed in St. Louis cemetery. Death was instantaneous but the body was not mangled. Mr. Menegay was born on a farm a short distance west of Louisville about forty-three years ago.
