Alexander Taylor A Pioneer Wife of Ohio Born April 15, 1784 Died Aug. 17, 1878 Rosannah was only seven years old when her father, James Alexander of Mifflin Co. PA passed away. She was eight when her mother, Rosey Reed Alexander died the next year. William Brown, a friend of the family, was appointed guardian on April 11, 1792. Rosannah grew up and married a neighbor, John Taylor, son of William and Esther Taylor on Feb. 19, 1801. John was interested in settling in Ohio where his brother, Robert lived. Rosannah had three little boys by the time they started their journey September of 1806. By the time John and Rosannah neared their journey=92s end, John was shaking with fever and Rosannah was exhausted. They gave thanks to God when they made it to Robert=92s cabin at the bend of the Great Miami River. Rosannah, being a pioneer wife, knew how to spin and grow flax, cook venison and other wild game, watch for bear, wolves, and snakes and have a baby every year or two. John raised hogs, farmed, and was a charter member of the Farmers and Merchants Co. of Centerville, in Montgomery Co. OH. He lost a small fortune investing in the Woodbourne Cotton Factory. He also started the town of Alexanderville in 1815. John passed away the fall of 1843 and by the look of his doctor bills, he was sick for quite awhile. Rosannah had an auction to settle with their creditors, the most money going to Doc Adams for plasters, pills, and brandy. Rosannah lived north of Centerville, Ohio for many more years. Her sons Alexander, Lewis, and Robert, eventual came to live with her. She had a knack for conversation and a love of ancient history. She read her bible and raised her children quietly. She isn=92t mentioned in history books for anything important but she is known by those of us interested in her descendants. If you drive by Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Centerville, Ohio. please put a yellow rose on Rosannah=92s grave. She was a remarkable woman.
