Parsonage in Washington C.H. last evening when Miss Olla TUTWILER became the wife of Mr. J.A. STILLINGS, of Xenia. Miss TUTWILER is a woman who is loved and held in high esteem by all and has been a teacher in the public schools for many years, holding long standing certificates in several counties, and a very active woman in church work in the community where she has lived all her life. She leaves a host of friends that will miss her influence, both school and church work. Mr. STILLINGS is to be congradulated in his choice of such an estimable woman for a life companion. The groom is a well to do farmer, and after a few days visit wth friends, will return to his beautiful country home, a few miles South of Xena, on Lower Bellbrook Pike. McCarthy Passes After Years In Realty Work; Former County Court Clerk Peter J. McCarthy, owner of the Abstract Co., real estate title examiners, and a former Clerk of Common Pleas Court, died at 9 p.m. yesterday at his home, 2924 Cleinview Ave. Walnut Hills. Mr. McCarthy was born in Cincinnati March 8, 1869. His father died seven years later. At the age of 15, needing funds to continue his schooling, he worked as a lamplighter, a job he held for four years. He attended St. Xavier College, Cincinnati, and Niagara University, Niagra N.Y. In 1889 Mr. McCarthy entered the Hamilton County Courthouse to plat property for the city and county. He was to be in and out of that building, and a new courthouse that followed, for the rest of his life, working on records and abstracting titles. For 46 years, until the day of his death, he controlled the Abstract Co., 813 Temple Bar Building, as manager and President. This company has abstracted and certified tens of thousands of pieces of real estate, including every important parcel in the county. Because of his knowledge of realestate, he was appointed a member of many building commissions. In 1925 he was appointed a member of the Juveinle Detention Home and Courthouse Annex Building Commission. He also served on commissions to build Dunham Hospital and a new Hamilton County Home. Mr. McCarthy served as Chief Clerk in the County Recorder's office from 1898 to 1901. Later he became Clerk of the Board of Review, and in 1911 he was appointed by Governor Judson Harmon to ve a member of the board. From 1911 to 1914 he served on the Board of Review and the District Board of Assessors. In 1935 he was appointed a member of the Juvenile Detention Homes and Courthouse Annex Building Conmmission. He was elected Clerk of Court of Hamilton County on the Citizens Ticket in 1932. When he campaigned for office, he promised to save the voters $17,000 a year in the operation of his office. He actually saved them $23,ooo a year. He was the first clerk to install the Civil Service System for employees of that office. He was a member of Cincinnati Lodge of Elks; Cincinnati Council No. 373, Knights of Columbus; the Cincinnati Clum; Maketewah Country Club; Chamber of Commerce; Cincinnati Autombile Club; Cincinnati Real Estate Board, and the Third Ward Democratic Club. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales congregation and was active in civic and charitable work. He was a Past Presicent of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alice Byland McCarthy, formerly of Covington, Ky.; four children, Mrs. Elizabeth Doyle, Mrs. Roy Manly, Peter J. McCarthy Jr. and Francis X. McCarthy, attorneys, all of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren; a brother, Felix P. McCarthy, and a sister, Miss Mary E.
