Kathy Baker EXTRAORDINARY SCENE IN THE WAYNE COUNTY COURT ROOM A Witness Makes a Remark Derogatory to the Character of a Young Lady and Has a Spittoon Smashed Over His Head. Wooster, O., Sept. 12. A very sensational scene occurred in the court of common pleas yesterday afternoon. During a civil action, while Levi Brenneman was on the witness stand, the attorneys had been complaining about the heat of the room. J. B. Taylor went to the cooler to get a drink, when Brenneman leaned over and made a remark which Taylor reported to ex Judge Isaac Johnson. Judge Johnson construed Brenneman's remark to be derogatory to the lady stenographer, Johnson's niece. The judge picked up an earthen spittoon and hurled it at Brenneman's head. The missile hit Brenneman on the arms and fell to the floor. Johnson in the meantime took a chair and raising it over his head started for Brenneman. Sheriff Brown and attorneys stopped Johnson and order was restored. Judge Dowell let the hot-headed attorney off with a fine, but gave him a lecture on his unprofessional conduct. -------------------------------- End of OH-FOOTSTEPS-D Digest V01 Issue #71 ******************************************
