MORRIS, of Middleburg, visited his sisters, Mrs. James O'HARRA, Mrs. ARMSTRONG and Miss Nellie at Columbus last week. ***** Miss Helen RACEY, a student at the Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware, spent the holiday vacation with her parents, C.M. RACEY and wife and friends at this place. ***** Supt. G.A. CATER and wife, of the Noble county infirmary, wish in this manner to thank the ladies of the Christian church for the excellent treat received for the inmates of that institution. ***** August FRIDAY, of Summerfield, passed through Caldwell last Thursday while on his return home from a business trip to Pittsburgh and while here was a pleasant business caller at this office. ***** While handling mine cars at the Florence mine last Saturday, Charles W. MOORE, Noble county's new sheriff, had his right hand caught in such a manner as to have the third and fourth fingers badly mashed. However, amputation of the members did not become necessary. ***** The revival meetings at the New Harmony Baptist church at South Olive are growing in interest. Rev. H.C. FLETCHER, of Newcomerstown, is giving some remarkable addresses that are spiritual, pungent and practical. His solo singing is enjoyed by all. Everybody is invited to attend. ***** Mrs. Leona CURTIS, of Summerfield, has been appointed by Probate Judge L.D. HEADLEY as assistant probation officer of Noble county and has entered upon the discharge of her duties as such. Her duties are to look after mothers' pensions and the welfare of the poor children of the county in the various charitable institutions. ***** Mrs. W.H. BOWRON entertained the members of the T----ble Circle at her home on North street last Friday afternoon. Just as Miss Mollie WILSON, a guest, had donned her wraps after the entertainment and had started to descend the stairway leading from the upper floors, she tripped and fell to the bottom of the steps. She sustained a number of severe bruises but fortunately no bones were broken. She was later removed in a motor car to her home on South Cumberland street. ***** Mrs. M.E. MERRY received a message before last Wednesday midnight stating that her nephew, Ogden ARCHER, aged seventeen years, only child of Attorney and Mrs. Arthur O. ARCHER, of St. Louis, Mo., had died at six o'clock that evening in a hospital in that city, from peritonitis following an operati= on for appendicitis. The deceased was a junior high school student and was one selected from a student body of 2,500 pupils as a violinist in the school orchestra; he was also a member of the Dramatic Art Club of the school. Ogden was a grandson of Mrs. Aaron ARCHER, of Caldwell, and was held in the highest esteem of all who knew him. The funeral was held after which the body was buried in the Cemetary at Salisbury. The sincere sympathy of many Caldwell friends is extended to the bereaved ones. ***** W.S. DEVOL, of South Zanesville, was in Caldwell on business Tuesday. ***** T.M. THURLOW, of Olive, spent the holidays with his son, Silas, and family at Marietta. ***** Henry SHADWELL, of Huntington, W Va, spent a part of the holidays with relatives and friends at this place. ***** H.F. THOMPSON, merchant at Carlisle, was a pleasant business caller at this office while in Caldwell last Friday. ***** R.P. GULLER, of Summerfield, was a pleasant social and business caller at this office while in Caldwell last Saturday. ***** Homer GROVES, of Buffalo township, was an agreeable business caller at this office while in Caldwell last Saturday. ***** Dr. F.W. MURREY, of New Concord, visited among relatives and friends in Noble county the latter part of last week. ***** J.S. HEDGE and wife, of Zanesville, spent Christmas and a part of the holidays with relatives and friends at this place. ***** Miss Rosalie CLEARY, of Senecaville, a former resident of Noble county, is now nicely recovering from a recent serious operation. ***** W.L. HEDDLESTON, residing south of Caldwell, called at this office while in town last Friday morning and added his name to The Leader's subscription list. ***** Notice to Taxpayers =96 I will receive December taxes until Saturday, January 20, 1925, without penalty. GULLER and wife at Summerfield, Christmas, and spent the remainder of the week with the parents of the ladies. ***** S.E. RUBY, Charles MILLER and Frank RUBY, all of Seneca Township, were in Caldwell last Thursday afternoon and were pleasant business callers at this office, the former adding his name to The Leaders subscription list and the others renewing their subscriptions to this paper. ***** Mike MIZIK, a miner in the Belle Valley coal mine, suffered a compound fracture of his right leg that Wednesday morning when a machine in the mine "kicked back" and threw him against a pile of slate. He was at once rushed to the Good Samaritan hospital at Zanesville where an examination was made. ***** A foreigner known as Joe SMITH, aged forty years, died last Wednesday afternoon at his rooming house in Florence as the result of having drank a quantity of white mule. He was a single man and had no known relatives in this section. The funeral was held at Belle Valley, Friday morning, and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at that place. ***** Fred O. BAKER, linotype operator in the office of the Woodsfield Sentinal, and Miss Pearl CLINE, youngest daughter of James CLINE, Sr, of near Fredericksdale and a lady of fine personality, were united in marriage at Caldwell, Tuesday noon of last week, the ceremony being solemnized by Rev. Slade FREER; pastor of the Olive Free Methodist church. Following the wedding the newly married couple went to the home of R. BAKER and wife, of Olive, where the were entertained until the arrival of the evening train for Woodsfield. Previous to their marriage the young folks favored The Leader office with a pleasant call. ***** J.O. HOLLAND, aged twenty-eight years, who joined the improved road workers south of Dudley about ten days ago, was instantly killed at South Olive last Saturday afternoon while assisting in loading a steam shovel onto a railroad car. He was standing directly under the scoop when the machine suddenly gave way and he was caught under the shovel and literally crushed. Papers found on his body indicated that his home was at Joplin, MO, and a telegram was sent to that place in the hope of getting into communication with his relatives. The body was taken to Dexter City and prepared for burial and held there until word was received from friends of the young man.
