Jan. 3, 1923, Front Page: Bernard ARNOLD, of Marietta, spent a part of last week with his parents and friends at this place. ***** The Pioneer Club of Sarahsville met in regular fortnightly session on December 27, 1922, with Mrs. F.L. TRUEX hostess. A deeply thoughtful and discriminating treatment of the life and works of the poet, Robert Browning, was Miss MOFFITT's contribution to the afternoon enjoyment. Carefully selected readings from the poems were given by Miss MOFFITT in connection with her paper. Mrs. Nellie KIRK read "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" very effectively. An unusual interest was given to Miss SINCLAIR's discussion of current events, among recent world happenings, worthy of discussion, being the fabulously rich discoveries of prehistoric deposits in Egypt, the tombs of the Pharoatis. Mrs. TRUEX served and exceptionally dainty spread, with pretty holiday favors. ***** During the holiday season the family of Harry TIDD, composed of the father, mother and six children ranging in age from two to fifteen years, residing south of Caldwell, was found to be in destitute circumstances. Last spring the home of the family at Kapple,Pa, was destroyed by fire, together with all the contents. The family drifted to Ohio, finally locating in this community. The condition of the members became known to neighbors and the matter came to the attention of Ex Sheriff F.W. DIENSTBACH, who at once set about to raise funds to alleviate their needs. The contributions came thick and fast and before long a large amount of money had been raised for the purpose. The day before Christmas a truck was loaded with provisions, clothing, bedding, etc, and taken to the home, where joy prevailed as the result of the splendid response made to this charitable cause. The father is employed as a section had on the Ohio River and Western railroad, and for his services receives $2.40 per day, with which to support a family of eight members. Mr. DIENSTBACH, and those associated in this charitable act, take this means of expressing their thanks to all who contributed to the cause. ***** LOST =96 In Caldwell last Saturday evening a $20 bill. Finder will please return to this office. ***** The annual sportsmen's banquet will be held at Columbus, January 12th, and the regular meeting of the men employed in the fish and game division will be held at the office the day before. ***** The Grand Army Post at Clarington, Ohio, has tendered a vote of thanks to President Harding and members of the senate and house for the passage of the law allowing old soldier's a pension of $72 and widows $50 per month. ***** LOST, STRAYED OR STOLEN =96 One English bull dog. Male pup, aged six months; color, white; height about fifteen inches; weight, about fifty pounds. No markings; no harness; no collar. Disappeared one week ago. If seen please notify "Bill" RACEY, Caldwell, Ohio. ***** The southbound Pennsylvania passenger train ran into an open switch at the Noble brick plant north of Ava last Friday morning, but no serious results followed. The engine crashed into a number of cars on the switch but neither of the cars composing the train was derailed and none of the passengers were injured to an extent, although all were considerably shaken up, due to the train proceeding at a low rate of s peed, having just emerged from the tunnel and started down a grade. Following a delay of about one hour the train proceeded on its trip. ***** Notice to Dog Owners =96 The dog tags are now ready for distribution for the year 1923. The law provides that all dogs over three months old must be registered by January 1st. If a dog changes ownership or becomes three months of age after January 1, then should be registered for the remainder of the year. Section 5662 15 provides that anyone who owns, keeps or harbors a dog wearing a fictitious, altered or invalid registration tag shall be fined not more than $100.00 and costs of prosecution. The law says that the sheriff shall seize and impound all dogs not wearing valid registration tags. Last year's tag is not a valid tag after January 1. If you desire tags sent by mail give age, color, sex and whether long or short hair and breed of dog. Enclose postage if you want the tags mailed to you. The fee is $1.00 for male and spayed female dogs and $3.00 for female dogs. L.E. MURREY, County Auditor. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ______________________________ ------------------------------ X-Message: #2 Date: Thu, 7 Jun 2001 16:48:32 EDT From: KJohn59310@aol.com To: OH-FOOTSTEPS-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <30.15f6e7e7.285142a0@aol.com> Subject: Creighton Bradshaw Obituary, Malta Ohio Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" MIME-Version: 1.0 Malta Man Dies Friday Morning Aug. 15, 1941 Crooksville, O. -- Creighton Bradshaw, aged 69, a well known former resident of Crooksville and Somerset, passed away at his home on River Street, at Malta, Ohio, Friday at 11:30 a.m. Following a protracted illn ess due to complications.
