Samuel Dean Haines, 79, of East Monroe, died Thursday, February 15, 2001 at the Greenfield Area Medical Center. He was born on May 16, 1921 in Fayette County, Ohio, the son of Ephraim Haines and Roxie (McCord) Haines. He was a farmer and was retired from Cincinnati Milacron after 20 years of service and was a member of the East Monroe United Methodist Church. Born July 8, 1916 in Peebles, she was the daughter of Charles Frost and Frances Kellis Frost. Married to James Hugh Price, who preceded her in death on August 13, 1966, Mrs. Price was a former employee of American Pad and Textile Co. and she was a member of the Church of Christ. GUS SNYDER DIED AT 5:30 LAST EVENING (dated 1927) Mrs. Uranu Smith Snyder, aged 83 years, passed away at 5:30 o'clock yesterday evening at her home at 212 Harrison avenue [Greenville]. Mrs. Snyder was stricken with a cerebral hemorage last Thursday and had been unconscious from that time until her death. Her husband, Gus Snyder, is seriously ill with a complication of diseases and not much hope is held out for his recovery. The desceased woman, who was a charter member of the Relief Corps, leaves, besides her aged husband, two children, Harry Snyder of Dayton and Mrs. Paul Harsch [sic, Hirsch] of Detroit, one brother and three sisters. Sevices will be held at the late home Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Stahl of the Reformed Church officiating. Internment at the Greenville cemetary. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ANOTHER VETERAN IS CALLED TO THE GREAT BEYOND (dated 1927) Augustus Snyder, Lifelong Citizen of Darke County, Dies at His Home in Greenville Thirsday Evening. Had Been Ill for Several Months. Funeral Monday. Augustus Snyder, 84, a lifelong resident of Darke county, and a veteran of the Civil war, died at his home, 212 Harrison avenue, Thursday evening at 5:30, his death following a long illness from old age complications. Mr. Snyder was a son of Augustin Snyder, who came to this county from Germany many years ago. The deceased man was a retired farmer, and a very highly respected citizen. He was a soldier in the great war of the rebellion, serving his country long and well as a member of the 34th Ohio Voulenteers. Mr. Snyder is survived by a son, Harry Snyder of Dayton, and a daughter, Mrs. Florence Hirsch, of Detroit. His wife passed away about three months ago. Funeral services will be held at the late home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Stahl officiating. Burial at the Greenville cemetary. _____________________________________________________________________________________ WAR VETERAN DEAD (deted 1910) John Snyder, an old resident of Greenville and Greenville township, and a Civil War veteran, who served in the Thirty-Forth O.V.I., in Company K, and served four years, died Monday afternoon, August 1, 1910, aged 70 years, 4 months, and 10 days. The remains were brought to Greenville Tuesday at noon and taken to Turpen's undertaking establishment. Funeral services at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Christian Church, Rev. E.A. Watkins officiating, internment in the Greenville cemetary. The deceased was well know to the older residents of Greenville. He leaves wife, son and daughter, and two brothers, one half brother, and one sister. Henry and August Snyder of this city are brothers of the deceased. Mary Reinhart, the sister, reisdes at Washington D.C., and the half brother, David Weiss, resides at Union City. ______________________________________________________________________________________ HENRY SNYDER, AN OLD VETERAN PASEES AWAY (dated 1921) Henry Clay Snyder, life-long citizen of Darke Co, buisiness man and soldier of the Civil War, passed away at his home, 200 Harrison avenue, at 4:15 Thursday afternoon. The cause of his death was a second stroke of paralysis suffered a short time ago. Henry C. Snyder was born in Darke county over 76 years ago, and has passed prictically his whole life here. He had been engaged in business for many years and was well known by every one in the city and country around Greenville. Comrade Snyder enlisted in the 44th Regimental Ohio Voulenteers and served in that division for a term, when he re-inlisted in the 8th Ohio Cavalry. He was very young during his fighting days, as he was only 20 years old when mustered out in 1865. Mr. Snyder ids survived by an only son, B.B. (Benjamin) Snyder of Greenville, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was a charter member of Champion Lodge No.742, L.O.O.F. and of the local G.A.R. Post. The funeral will be held from his late residence Sunday, January 1st, at 2 p.m. Rev. Young of the Reformed Church will officiate.
