'Red' Benson, age 73, of 1001 McClain Avenue, Greenfield, died Thursday, August 1 at his residence. He was born August 1, 1922 in Ross County, the son of Charles and Harriet (Spurgeon) Benson. He married Emma Mae Downs, who survives, on June 28, 1947. Mr. Benson was a World War II Army veteran, VFW member, a former volunteer for the Greenfield Fire Department and a former employee of Greenfield Research. He was retired after 48 years as an employee of U.S. Shoe Corp. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kandy Benson of Good Hope; one daughter, Brenda Sue Wise of Greenfield; two granddaughters and husbands, Melissa and Randy Bosier of Leesburg and Heather and Paul Hess of Greenfield; two sisters, Ethel Bennett and Goldie Wilson of Greenfield; one great grandson, Dalton Hess; and three step grandchildren.
