Staats, Lyndon, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Staats and Daniel Staats, Bainbridge and Debbie Bucy, Raisboro, Carolyn Dunkle, Kingston, Janet Storts, Leroy Storts, Shane and Shawn, and Mr. and Mrs. David Tootle, Frankfort, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schiller, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Staats and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Staats, Greenfield. Copied from the Jackson Herald, Friday, June 29. Historical Landmark is Site of Wedding. by Hank Gibson. Larry Staats and Martha Schuyler were married last week. While this may not be particularly unusual, the place where they married and how they came to choose it is: The Germantown, Ohio couple was married Monday, 6:30 p.m., by the Rev. Wayne Hinzman before this reporter and a few curious residents. Mr. Hinzman's wife, Ruby, was the sole witness for the couple. The bride and groom are both natives of Germantown. They have been friends for many years, and according to the new Mrs. Staats, first knew each other in the third grade. Because of a chance happening, the couple decided to be married at Staats Mill, instead of their native city. Early last winter, Mr. Staats' mother, Mrs. Mildred Lytle Staats, widow of Donald Lloyd Staats, was in Charleston, W. Va., visiting friends when she happened to notice an oil painting of the Covered Bridge in a store window. The picture interested her so much that she called the proprietor of the store (it was Sunday) and he agreed to meet her. When Mrs. Staats learned from the store owner where Staats Mill was located, she visited the court house in Ripley, W. Va., to trace the family. Much to her surprise she discovered that many residents of the area were related to her late husband. Returning to Ohio she informed her son of her findings, prompting several visits to the bridge locale by him and his fiancee. He was both startled and pleased to learn that his great grandfather was William Staats and worked in the mill at Staats Mill. William's brother was the late Enoch Staats, an early settler in the community. Feeling a sense of responsibility to his heritage, Larry decided to be wed on the last remaining vestige of the original Staats family, the bridge. Following a brief stay in the area, the couple returned to Ohio. Both promised return visits to find out more about their family origin." **************************************** _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx -------------------------------- End of OH-FOOTSTEPS-D Digest V02 Issue #33 ******************************************
