"SHOEMAKER ANNOUNCES. State Senator Mike Shoemaker (D-Bourneville) recently announced that he will seek reelection to the Ohio Senate in the newly reconfigured District 17, which includes all of Fayette, Clinton, Highland, Ross, Pike, Vinton, Jackson and Gallia counties and parts of Pickaway and Lawrence counties. 'With the pressing needs and concerns facing our Southern Ohio communities, it is imperative that your senator is willing to stand up and speak out when the big city polititians forget about you and your families,' Shoemaker said. He was first elected in 1982 to the House and is currently the longest serving Democratic member of the legislature. In 1997 he was appointed to the Senate. He has sponsored legislation that created the Ohio Department of Aging and energy legislation that has saved Ohio school districts more than $600 million in the past 14 years, a press release stated. He helped create the U.S. 35 Corridor Committee. Senator Shoemaker was the only legislator to testify as a witness for the plaintiffs against the state in the Perry County lawsuit that found Ohio's school funding system unconstitutional. Shoemaker was born in 1945 in Nipgen, Ohio (Ross County). He is married to Vicki, and they have two children, Angela Lynn Saxton and Michael Todd Shoemaker; and two grandchildren. He is a member of United Methodist Church in Bainbridge." ************************************************************** _________________________________________________________________ Join the world=92s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail.=20 http://www.hotmail.com -------------------------------- End of OH-FOOTSTEPS-D Digest V02 Issue #11 ******************************************
