The 74th annual alumni banquet of the South Salem Academy and Buckskin Alumni was held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 1990 in the Buckskin School Gymnasium. A total of 243 persons attended the reunion which began with a steak dinner prepared and served by the Fruitdale United Methodist Church Women. The tables were decorated with flowers and balloons in the school colors of maroon and white. Floral centerpieces marked the tables of the honored classes. The invocation was offered by Drew Parker, '62. The alumni president, Wayne Kline, '55, served as master of ceremonies for the evening. He extended thanks to the following groups and individuals: the South Salem Garden Club for the flowers and table decorations; Greenfield Printing and Publishing for the programs; Bill Buck for the tables and chairs; the Fruitdale UMW for the dinner; the social hour hostesses; and to all who helped make the evening possible. The president gave special thanks to Buckskin Principal Mary Mace Miller for her help with banquet arrangements and her work to secure class pictures to be displayed in the school. He also thanked the tables and chairs committee of Richard Lucas, '54; Bob Curry, '43, Frank Wisecup, '53; Lew Speakman, '63; Bob Bristley, Mcclain '68; Jeffrey Nicolosi; and Neil Miller. Susan Curry Winchell, McClain '67, gave the secretary's report, and Elma Smith Wisecup, '55, presented the treasurer's report. Alumni were reminded to notify officers of address changes. McClain graduates after 1965 who completed eighth grade at Buckskin and wish to be included on the mailing list may also contact the officers. Otherwise, no invitations will be sent to them. Announcement was made of a scholarship fund for the Greenfield Schools funded by alumni. Contributions can be made individually, as groups, in memory of someone, or as a bequest, by contacting the MHS principal, or alumni officers. The roll call of classes was conducted by Secretary Winchell and Vice-President Lew Speakman. A total of 158 alumni answered the roll call, including seven McClain graduates. Nine former teachers were in attendance. The oldest alumnae present were Bertha Stewart Taylor and Ellen Hennigan Parrett, both of the class of 1914. In honor of their 76th anniversary, the ladies were presented long stemmed red roses by the alumni organization. The class of 1925 (65 years) was recognized with three members present. They were James N. Brown, Ersie Miller, and Lucille B. Strouse Oliver. No one was present from the class of 1930 (60 years). Class toasts were presented by members of the four honored classes: 1965 (25 years and last class to graduate from Buckskin High School), by Sue Bland Graves; 1955 (35 years), by Clifford Wisecup; 1950 (40 years), by Virginia Wisecup Cockerill; and 1940 (50 years), by Dr. John Allen.
