DeVoss, Colonel, AUS (Ret.), State College, Pennsylvania : "26 June 1985 Dear DeVoss Descendant, Hold on to your hats for I have a special message. We will have one BIG special family reunion this year instead of two (Indiana & Iowa) as we have had the past two years. Several felt we should arrange something different this year and that is exactly what we've done. We know it will be inconvenient for some of you but wait until you hear what's in store for this year and then, please, pretty please, try your very best to make it. I'm sure it will be the most exciting weekend you have experienced in a long time especially if you are at all interested in learning more about your ancestors. The 1985 DeVoss Family Reunion will be held the weekend of August 24-25, 1985, in Ross Co., Ohio, where many of our ancestors lived and died. We will use the Holiday Inn, 1250 N. Bridge St., Chillicothe, Ohio 45601, as our meeting place. It is located on U.S. 23 on the north side of Chillicothe. Plans for the weekend are as follows: a Saturday afternoon getting together in the Holiday Inn Ballroom for a get-acquainted session, meeting old & new relatives with charts and family records displayed for all to examine; then a special reception at 6 p.m. with a sit-down dinner to follow; on Sunday, a special tour of the sites where our ancestors lived and the cemeteries where they were buried. As many of you already know, I've gotten back one and possibly two more generations. Joseph DeVoss (whose father I believe was Joseph, Sr.) lived in Westmoreland Co., Pa. and apparently moved his family (sons, John W. & Isaac) to Kentucky where four more children were born - Rebecca (Hixon), Margaret (Barkley), Catherine (Gragg), and Sophia (Cox). Then in 1807 Joseph moved his family to Ohio near where his brother Daniel had moved in 1803. I've discovered that far more DeVoss descendants live in the State of Ohio than any other state and just wait until we all get together in August. Please return the enclosed form letting me know if you can attend the DeVoss Reunion this year. If you have a new mailing address be sure to so indicate and if you know that some of your relatives are not yet on my mailing list, send me their addresses. I now have almost 1,500 DeVoss descendants entered in my computerized genealogical records and I hope to get the 'DeVoss Family In America' published soon. If there have been any changes in your family since I last contacted you, such as births, deaths, marriages, etc., please let me know without delay as I want this book to be as accurate as possible. If you have neglected to return the DeVoss Family form that I sent you, please complete it and return it as soon as possible. As at previous reunions, special recognition will be extended to the oldest and youngest DeVoss descendant attending as well as to the person coming from the greatest distance. We hope to have well over 250 DeVoss descendants attending this year. Can we count on you??? Send your reply as soon as possible. Cancellations can be made up until Aug. 15. Sincerely, James T. DeVoss *********************************************************************** _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ______________________________ ------------------------------ X-Message: #4 Date: Sat, 23 Mar 2002 13:23:56 +0100 From: "Bakers" To: OH-FOOTSTEPS-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <011101c1d266$62cd3f80$a502bfc3@iu5k3> Subject: Marriages, Sts.
