It states that his wife was Jane and his son, John, was executor. It was made on Oct 5, 1900. He had many small properties in NJ. He listed among his property a cemetery plot which was here in NJ. So far I cannot connect this Henry with my Taylor's, but eventually I'm sure I will. (This was a place that had a Taylortown and has a Taylor Street and still has a gazillion Taylors!) The problem being most were named "William, Henry, or John". Many were named William Henry, too. I haven't found any John Henry's yet but I'm sure they're there! If you feel that this man is your ancestor, please contact me. The Fate of Miss Effie West, Daughter of Mr. Fairfax West, A Prominent Citizen of Centerville. ***special to the Democrat Sabina, Ohio, October 27, 1891--The saddest case of woman's love and man's perfidy that has ever occurred in this section of the county was first given onto the public yesterday, after the funeral of Miss Effie West, the accomplished and highly esteemed daughter of Mr. Fairfax West, who is a prominent druggist of Centerville. Two physicians of Greenfield and Charles R. Bell, a Clinton County school teacher, are criminally responsible for the young lady's tragic death. Miss West, who was beautiful, amiable and unsuspecting, had been receiving the attentions of Mr. Bell during the past few months. Sunday morning of the 18th inst. Mr. Bell called expressly to accompany the young lady to Charles Driskill's near New Vienna, but drove to Greenfield instead. According to the confession of the unfortunate girls, before dying last Sunday morning, Mr. Bell procured the services of two physicians who performed an abortion before they returned home the same day to unsuspecting parents. She was prostrate soon after their return and suffered every agony before death came to her relief. Fearing that the dying girl would make a sweeping confession, the author of her ruin deserted his school at Pleasant Hill and was not again seen nor heard of until a clandestine meeting with his partners about midnight Saturday. He was driven to Wilmington and there took the 5:30 a.m. Midland train cast. Miss West had always borne a most excellent reputation for chastity before receiving the attentions Bell, and was very prominent in church circles. Her funeral was preached last Monday afternoon by Rev. Morris, of Mount Sterling, to the largest assembly of weeping relatives and sympathizing friends we have every witnessed together in that quiet village. Before dying she called the family about her and bade them a last farewell. "I know I did wrong and must die, "said the young girl, "Yet I have an abiding faith in a merciful Father and hope to be forgiven." The confession as to the guilt of Bell and the Greenfield physicians was made in the presence of two friends and members of her own. Her father, by request, was excluded at the time. She was unable to give names or such a description of the guilty physicians as would definitely lead to their arrest and identity, yet it is thought sufficient is known to warrant their apprehension, even though Bell should never be caught. A liberal reward has been offered for his arrest and return to the authorities. He is about twenty-four years of age, slightly above the average height and weight, and carries a very noticeable depression in forehead and a scar on right cheek, the result of being kicked by a horse when quite small. He has a quick, elastic step, and is inclined to talk rapidly. It is sincerely hoped by the many friends of the bereaved family that he will be speedily captured and receive his just deserts. Sandy Scioto Gazette, July 5, 1913 NARROW ESCAPE FROM BEING HIT BY LIGHTNING Robert Immell, who lives just across the Scioto River from YellowBud, and who is playing with Twentieth Century Band this week, reports that he had a very narrow escaped from being struck by lightning Thursday afternoon. He was taking in his team from the field, trying to get in ahead of a storm, when the lightning struck a a shock of wheat in the field about ten feet from where he was passing. His horses were stunned, and so was he, but he remained on his feet and kept on. About 15 feet from where the bolt struck stood a large cement watering trough, and just as he got to the through the lightning struck the water tank and toret into hundreds of fragments, and again he was stunned. The two strokes came within a few minutes of each other and could not have been over fifty feet apart. The rain came down in torrents, and Mr. Immell said he could have ridden a boat all over some of the fields Friday morning, so heavy was the downpour while it lasted.
