H. Slaughter Nelsonville--- C. H. Slaughter, 90, former Athens businessman and major, died Tuesday morning at his home at 138 N. Lancaster St. He operated a grocery on Lancaster St. for many years and was mayor of Athens more than 50 years ago. Born at Stewart, he was a son of the late William and Mary Slaughter. He and his brother, the late Isaac Slaughter, operated an opera house in Athens at one time. His wife, Lulu, preceded him in death. He is survived by several cousins. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Johnson funeral home, by the Rev. Gene Rowe. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call at the funeral home at any time. ------------------------- Mrs. Maggie Blake Coolville --- Mrs. Maggie Black, 75, died Tuesday in an Athens Hospital after an extended illness. She was the widow of Austin Blake, Coolville, who died in December of 1963. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Delberta Johnson, Coolville, a son, Delmont Sabina; a brother Joe Buckley, Mineral; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Va Veterans Administration Hospital where he had been receiving treatment for several months. A retired coal miner, he was a veteran of World War I. Born in Athens County, he was a son of the late Freeman and Eliza Johnson. He is survived by a son Wayne Johnson, New Marshfield Route 1; a brother , Howard Johnson, Barberton; three sisters, Mrs. Effie McClain, Carbondale; Mrs. Delphia Willis and Mrs. Elizabeth Goff, Barberton; and two grandchildren.
