Athens Messenger April 28th 1965
C. H. Slaughter
Nelsonville--- C. H. Slaughter, 90, former Athens businessman and major, died
Tuesday morning at his home at 138 N. Lancaster St.
He operated a grocery on Lancaster St. for many years and was mayor of Athens
more than 50 years ago.
Born at Stewart, he was a son of the late William and Mary Slaughter.
He and his brother, the late Isaac Slaughter, operated an opera house in
Athens at one time.
His wife, Lulu, preceded him in death.
He is survived by several cousins.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Johnson funeral home, by
the Rev. Gene Rowe.
Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call at
the funeral home at any time.

Mrs. Maggie Blake
Coolville --- Mrs. Maggie Black, 75, died Tuesday in an Athens Hospital
after an extended illness.
She was the widow of Austin Blake, Coolville, who died in December of 1963.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Delberta Johnson, Coolville, a son, Delmont
Sabina; a brother Joe Buckley, Mineral; five grandchildren and a number of
nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday 2 p.m. at White Funeral home with burial in
Coolville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home.

Leonard Johnson
Nelsonville ---Leonard Johnson 74, Carbondale died Tuesday evening in the
Huntington , W. Va Veterans Administration Hospital where he had been
receiving treatment for several months.
A retired coal miner, he was a veteran of World War I.
Born in Athens County, he was a son of the late Freeman and Eliza Johnson.
He is survived by a son Wayne Johnson, New Marshfield Route 1; a brother ,
Howard Johnson, Barberton; three sisters, Mrs. Effie McClain, Carbondale;
Mrs. Delphia Willis and Mrs. Elizabeth Goff, Barberton; and two
grandchildren.
Arrangements are being completed by the Johnson funeral home.

Eugene Miner
Glouster--- Eugene Miner, 64 Columbus formerly of Trimble died in Columbus
Monday./ Born in Athens County, his parents were Lawrence and Frances Kasler
Miner. He is survived by one daughter Mrs. Irene Skinner....sorry folks this
is where my page ends.

DEATHS:
Evans S. Jones
Services for Evans Siebert Jones 69, will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the
Strueve funeral home, with Rev. Linden R. Wilson officiating. Burial will be
made in Twin township cemetery, Bourneville.
Jones died Sunday in the Buckingham nursing home. Born at Oak Hill April 24,
1884,. he was a son of John and Amy Rose Jones and was a farmer.
He leaves two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Leatha Newson, of Massillon:
George and John JOnes of West Liberty, and Mrs. Eleanor Barnes, of Bainbridge
Rt. 2; a step-son, James Eliott, of Lyndon Rt. 2, three sisters Mrs. Jane
McNerlin and Mrs. Bertha Burnsides both of Oak Hill, and Mrs. Margaret
Hammond, Bourneville.
Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mrs. O. L. Knisley
Mrs. Grace Adams Knisley, 52, died Monday at 12:30 p.m. in her home at 428
Mill Street.
She was born in Pike County May 29, 1901. She is survived by her husband,
Orlen L. (Tad) Knisley; three daughters and four sons, Mrs. Stanely Warner,
Harold Kenneth, and Mrs. Robert Moehring, all of Dayton: Russell and Raymond
of Greenfield and Mrs. Clarence Schaffer of Sabina; two sisters, Mrs. Eugene
Thompson of Memphis and Mrs. William Lewella of Panama City, Fla, and 12
grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters and a sister.
Service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Murray Funeral home and
interment will be made in Greenfield cemetery. Friends may call at the
funeral home after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

MRS. BELLE WARREN
Mrs. Belle Warren 71, died Friday at 1 p.m. at the residence of her daughter,
Mrs. Lorie Ormes, Jonesboro, where she had been in a critical condition the
past two weeks.
In addition to her daughter, she leaves four sons, Stanley, Keith, Ralph, and
Harold.
She was a member of a church in Cincinnati.

MRS. NANCY TEMPLETON
Mrs. Nancy Templeton, native of Fayette county and sister of Albert R. McCoy,
funeral director who died a number of years ago died at her home in Denver,
Colorado, Saturday night, according to word received here.
Mrs. Templeton had resided in Denver for many years, and leaves one sister,
Miss Ethel E. McCoy of Wilmington.

Lemuel Taylor Bellar, 85, died at his home at 1147 Campbell Street at 2:30
P.M. Thursday.
Mr. Bellar is survived by his widow and five sons: John, of Decatur Indiana,
