"The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away." James Wesley, son of William N. and Sophia Conner Haynie, was born at New Antioch, Ohio, December 9th, 1845 and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. D. Kibler, on West Walnut street, Hillsboro, Ohio; September 17th, 1923, aged 77 years, 9 months and 8 days. On Sept. 21st, 1866, he was united in marriage with Sarah J. Bobbitt, who died July 7th 1883. To this union three sons and four daughters were born, all of whom have preceded him except one daughter, Mrs. Emma Murray, of New Antioch. On June 17th, 1885, he was united in marriage with Anna A. Rowe, who died April 25th, 1920. To this union one daughter, Mrs. C. D. Kibler, was born. The departed was one of a family of five children all of whom have answered the call of the grim reaper except one brother J. William Haynie of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. When quite a young man, Mr. Haynie identified himself with the Christian Church at New Antioch and has lived an exemplary Christian life. He has kept the faith. He has fought a good fight, and has now received his reward. He spent the greater part of his most useful life on the farm in Clinton and Highland Counties, having moved to Hillsboro just a few years ago. It has been the privilege and good pleasure of the writer of this sketch, to have known this most estimable man and words are inadequate to express my appreciation of having been associated with him. To justly portray the splendid record of this good man would require much time and space, but may it suffice to say that he was a man among men, always pleasant, composed and considerate ever generous, hospitable, and kind. To know him was to love him. But alas! He is gone. He has passed from our view, but he will not be forgotten. His useful life will be as seed sown on good ground and his friends who are legion will ever cherish him in memory. By the passing of this venerable man, the family loses a most excellent father, the community genial and sympathetic friend and neighbor, and the county one of it's most highly respected citizens. Yet he is not dead. He is merely at erst peaceful rest. Free from all sorrow and pain. Peace on the brow and the eyelids so calm, Peace in the heart, neath the white folded palm, Peace dropping down like a wonderful balm, >From the head to the feet. It was so sudden our white lips said, How we shall miss him, the beautiful dead. But God knoweth best. We know. He watches the sparrows that fall. Hears the sad cry of the grieved hearts that call, Friend, husband, and child. He loveth all, We can trust for the rest.
