Rose b. abt 1816 in Ohio; married Jayne Payne 10 Nov 1841 assumed Ohio. Jayne Payne b. about 1818 in Ohio. They had one child which is known William C. Rose b 10 Mar 1856 in Porter County, Ohio. He married Antoinette McIntosh 22 Dec 1879 in Bourbon County, Kansas. Since Norval/Norvel and Jayne were married in 1841 and William was not born until 1856 it is possible that there are other children of this marriage. Antoinette McIntosh is the sister of my great grandfather and the Rose family lived and died in Bourbon County. I would like to have the ancestors of William C. Rose, birth, death, marriage, siblings, etc. Am willing to share what limited information I have on the Rose family in Bourbon County, Kansas. February 3, 1893 Philip YOUNG was born in Bavaria, Germany, Oct. 15, 1809, and died at his home in Madison township, Fairfield county, O., after a brief illness of a few weeks, on the 24th ult., at the ripe old age of 83 years, 3 months and 9 days. He served six years as a German soldier, and it was truly interesting to hear him relate in his own graphic manner, his experience as frontier guard. In 1837, he emigrated to America, at once settling in Ohio. His future wife, Mis Anna Maria CHRIST, left the same country at the same time, sailing with him in the same ship, but they remained strangers to each other until they were safely landed on American soil. In 1842, they were united in holy wedlock. This union was blessed with six sons ad daughters. The beloved of his bosom and two daughters preceded him to eternal home. Ten children remain to mourn his departure. He was baptized in his infancy, and in his tender years received into full membership of the German Reformed Church. After he had settled in this country and had become acquainted with the religious belief and life here, the Ev. Lutheran Church was his choice, with which he united and remained a member until his death. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, J.M. WENRICH, in the St. Thomas Ev. Lutheran Church, where many friends had assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. Interment in the St. Thomas cemetery. (no further info.) Historical Society, no heading to identify newspaper. February 2, 1893 THE FIRST SCHOOL IN DEERCREEK TOWNSHIP The Williamsport News, in connection with its report of the dedication of he new school building in that place, on 21st ult., says of the first schools in the township: The history of the schools of Deercreek township is very incomplete, and no official record back of 1874, the date of the organization of Williamsport District, can be found. The first school of the township, of which we have any definite knowledge, says the History of Pickaway County, commenced in a little log house standing near or on the site of the present residence of E. S. DAVIS, in the summer of 1818. The teacher's name was WHITE, and his scholars were quite numerous, being some twenty-five in number. Among these were Charles WILSON and sister and Margaret DAVIS and brother, Ebenezer S. There is a blank here in the history until 1874. Uncle Abner MCALLISTER says he remembers the house referred to distinctly; and that his older brothers attended school there but he thinks it stood farther south than Mr. DAVIS' residence, yet on his land. The first school Mr. MCALLISTER attended was conducted by his brother, Waterman MCALLISTER, in 1821, in a building which stood near the "old tan-yard," a half mile northwest of this place, on land now owned by James DUNLAP. In about 1824 he attended school in the old Christian Church, which stood in the Christian graveyard. School was then held in different places in the township, many of the children of town attending a school conducted in an old log cabin situated two miles east of here near the residence of James CARMEAN. School was afterward "kept" in a log house, of more pretensions, which stood near the residence of Wesley MCALLISTER. In about 1853 this log house was removed and a frame building erected by Jacob BAUGHMAN. This was known as District No. 9. This was in use until 1874, when the community so far advanced that it became necessary to dispose of it, and the brick building, torn down last summer, was erected, and Williamsport District was organized. The old brick school house, the main part of which now forms the two rear rooms of the new building, was erected during the summer of 1874, at a cost of about $4,000, lands included. The Board of Education at that time was Dr. T.C. TIYTON, President; W. B. DAVIS, Clerk; A. D. RADCLIFFE, S. G. HUNSICKER, G. W. HURST, and A. D. RECTOR. E. S. DAVIS was chosen their Treasurer. The lot (3) acres was purchased of the guardian of the heirs of George RADCLIFFE. The building was thought to be an elegant structure. The plans and specifications were drawn up by W. B. DAVIS. F. SWARTZ did the brick work; F. & J. PARKER, of New Holland, were the carpenters; J. DICKERSON & William A. STROUP, plasterers; Jacob BAUGHMAN, painter. The brick was purchased of Philip EYCKE. The building was completed October 31, 1874, and school menced Dec. 7th, with Miss Anna LEIBY teaching the grammar room and Miss Mento HARMOUNT, the primary room.
