The New company is said to own some ten or a dozen mills scattered over the United States. The new firm will take hold soon, it is said. The HEFFNER family has been known in the milling and grain elevator business in this county for over a half century. William and H. R. HEFFNER started in the grain business in 1871 in Fairfield county. William HEFFNER sold his interest to E.. W. SCOTT and with Christian SCHWARTZ bought the cottage mill of David MILLER on Canal street in 1874. The SCHWARTZ interest was later purchased by H. R. HEFFNER in 1877. In 1882 James REICHELDERFER was admitted as a partner. In 1887 Harvey S. HEFFNER, a son of William HEFFNER purchased an interest. The firm name then became HEFFNER & Co., and the Sagamore mill on Canal street was built. It was destroyed by fire in 1896. The firm then rented the Circleville grain elevator. Later purchasing it of Alexander BELL, July 1, 1897, James REICHELDERFER's interest was purchased by W. F. and H. S. HEFFNER, sons of William HEFFNER. August 17, 1897 they purchased the ground at the corner of Mill and Clinton streets and February 13, 1898 commenced the construction of the mill just sold. _______________________________ BUY WAR SAVINGS STAMPS NOW!
